Families Connecting

Last weekend we had the wonderful opportunity to attend another community potluck. I wrote about our first community potluck experience a couple of months ago. This one, with the same community, was just as amazing as the first.

The families we are connecting with are those from our Oaks and Acorns program and those who are being inspired by the Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature. We are like minded families, looking to deepen our connection to nature, share our experiences, learn from each other and in turn grow and change. It is really amazing and I feel very fortunate to have found this wonderful community.
Last weekend’s potluck was held at the lovely home of Craig and Kathleen. I am not quite sure how they managed to get such a lovely day in April, but they did and we were able to spend the entire afternoon outside.

When we arrived Kathleen handed Reece a bowl and sent us into the fields to collect dandelions. As we walked out we ran into other families doing the same. We manage to collect a ton of those lovely little flowers and headed back to their yard. Waiting for us were some eggs and a bowl of flour. This kids got busy cracking and beating the eggs and then dipping the dandelions into the egg and then into the flour. Craig had the honour of frying them up. With a little touch of maple syrup we all enjoyed the fried dandelions as an appetizer.

Then came the potluck, it was delicious. Everyone brought wonderful dishes and it was so nice to share a meal outside among friends.

After eating, Craig gathered the kids for some games and oh what fun we had! There was the “don’t let the fox hear you” game and then a game of hide and seek with a twist. Reece climbed some apple trees, had a swing in the hammock and ran around having a great time. Justin disappeared for a while into the deep forest to look at trees and I just enjoyed the wonderful day, the sounds of children playing and the great company of those who were there.
I love these afternoons of connection, I leave feeling full, in body, mind and spirit.

  10. What a wonderful time you had! And eating fried dandelions sounds like fun!! And to spend time climbing trees, ahhh bliss! I wish we had a good tree for climbing in our yard. My brothers and I always spent lots of time up trees when we were kids. We'll have to scope out some good climbing trees for my little fella :-)

Thanks for sharing on Happy Family Times x
