Christmas present number two is done!! I finished up my niece’s hat on the weekend and quickly cast on one for my nephew. Things are moving along nicely with the Christmas gifts and I couldn’t be happier. People often think it strange that I start so early, the thing is, I really love the holiday season and having all the gifts done means I can sit back, relax and enjoy the season without the stress. And I really like that. So, yes, it means I am knitting Christmas gifts in May, but I enjoy it and it feels good to check them off my list.
On the reading front, The Coyote’s Guide is still on the go. I begin leading the Coyote Guide Club this evening, which I am really looking forward to. It is challenging me to put the Core Routines of Nature Connection into action with real people in nature, guiding them to a deeper connection with nature. It is a learning experience for me too and I can’t wait to see where it will take me on my journey to connecting more deeply with nature.
I have also been reading a new book for my doula studies The Labor Progress Handbook by Penny Simkin. I have just started it and so far am enjoying it.
And of course it is the season of birds, so our Birds of Ontario book has come out of hiding.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

I am impressed with your holiday knitting! I usually do all my shopping by December. But the knitting? I pick only a few for hand knit gifts. Lovely color of yarn you have in the photo!
ReplyDeleteWell at least you get all your shopping done in advance :) We don't do much shopping for Christmas, all handmade so we have to get started early.
DeleteYou are really moving along Kim and I am so with you on being able to just enjoy the season without all the last minute stress.
ReplyDeleteMy bird books are out too and we are having so much fun with them.
Have a great yarn along day.
It really makes the season much more special for me.
DeleteI agree, get it done and out of the way. The yarns are so beautiful! Can't wait to hear how your group goes tonight!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa. The group went great. We had a wonderful time exploring, getting to know each other better and figuring out bird calls. I am so inspired right now
DeleteI get that feeling of hating to be rushed. I often start projects way in advance (the marathon mentality;) so I don't feel stressed when the time comes to be finished. But starting in May for Christmas gifts is way more organized than me! I suspect it's the nature of knitting. Sewing and other crafts can be finished up quicker, I think. Enjoy your books and your yarn.
ReplyDeleteI guess I like the fact that I am not stressed when I am making the gifts, I am enjoying the process now because Christmas is so far away. I think if I were to leave it to the last minute the whole process would not be enjoyable and then my thought would be, why do it?
DeleteGood for you getting your gifts made early! I think that's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI do too :)
DeleteI think it's brilliant to start gift knitting so "early." I need to work on my organization for that one.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look for your bird book - we're working on identifying the birds we see and some guides are such a challenge themselves.
Thanks. We like this bird book so far, it is fairly easy to use and gives lots of great information.
DeleteI wish I was as organised as you! I am working on my daughter's 1st birthday presents for June - eek! Love that you are given knits for Christmas :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd your reading sounds interesting x
I can't wait to see what you are making for her birthday :)
DeleteGood for you! I feel like being that organized would be wonderful, but knowing me, I would put the gifts away and lose them! Great work!
ReplyDeleteHaha, they are sitting right on my craft table until I can find the perfect place to put them, where I won't forget where they are :)
DeleteGreat idea to get your Christmas gifts started so early. As our Christmas is in summer I look to other handmade gifts, but I would love to be able to give knitted items.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I can imagine that would be tough, although I know I would appreciate a knitted gift given in the summer to be used in the fall and winter season that is coming.
DeleteI should learn a thing or two and start my holiday gifts now too. and doula studying? how wonderful!!! I am so thankful for the doulas who were present at Avi's birth... they are worth their weight in gold!
