Sharing

Yesterday Reece and I had the honour and privilege of sharing our love of nature with thirteen moms and dads and nineteen little ones, ages three weeks to six years.

It was the first meeting of a new group I have started called Touch the Earth, a monthly outdoor nature program for moms, dads and their little ones. Through this program I hope to foster a deep love and connection to this earth for parents and their little ones and create a community of like minded families. We sang songs, read a nature poem, explored nature, feed the birds, collected leaves, played in a teepee and shared time together.

While I was fully prepared to share my love, passion and connection to this earth, I did not anticipate how much I would receive in return.

Today I am filled with gratitude for:

:: the lovely autumn day we were blessed with
:: the joy of seeing children running free in nature
:: the birds who were actively involved in our morning (chickadees, nuthatches and woodpeckers all landed in our hands to feed)
:: witnessing the amazement and joy of a lovely six year old boy when a chickadee landed in his hand to feed
:: the smiles and conversations of moms and dads as they experienced Mother Nature, enjoyed the fresh air and made new friends
:: the amazing sense of adventure little ones possess
:: the stories shared among new friends
:: the magic of childhood
:: support from friends

I cannot express my gratitude enough, it was an amazing morning and I am so happy to be able to share my love of this earth with these wonderful children and their parents.

The next Touch the Earth is a month away and I can't wait!

  4. Forgot to add, we had some leftover bird seed when we got home so after a much needed nap, Bean & I made a little home made feeder out of a recycled cider container, yarn & skewer sticks! Bean wanted to invite the birds to come visit us at home too. I just went out to inspect & a female Oriole has spotted the feeder! ;) Now we just have to find a "wax bowl" so we can craft our waxed leaves! I really loved your 'garland' idea for Fall! Does it keep well? I would love to re-use it next year or add to it!

    1. Fabulous idea! It does keep well, just wrap carefully and it should be good to go for next year.

  11. What a fantastic idea. I'd go if I could! I think it is so important to be in nature..children are so distanced from children, we have to deliberately bring nature to them. Most children don't have the opportunity to grow up wild in the country like I did.

    1. Thanks Elisa. You are so right, especially in today's age, nature and children usually don't mix that much...I hope to change that :) We had a great time and I can't wait for our next meeting.
