The earth is quietly dying back.
The leaves falling gently to the ground.
Plants are curling inside themselves.
Trees once covered in leaves, stand bare.
Meadows once filled with wild plants appear flat and empty.

But look more closely,
open your eyes,
before you is

Hope in the nutrients the dying leaves return to the earth.
Hope in the seeds the plants wait patiently to spread on the wings of the next wind gust.
Hope in the beauty of the changing landscape, renewing itself with each dying breath.

As darkness falls upon the earth
there is a message of hope,
of renewal and of beauty.

Can you see it?

It is there.

It hides behind earthy browns and dark days.
Look closely, through the shadows,
you will see it,
it shares its message with us,

  1. I love how different our worlds are Kim. But even here you can see a change, the weather is colder, the Ocotillo have lost their leaves and most of the heat loving critters are going under ground.

    1. It is pretty amazing, isn't it? Sounds like you are noticing lots of changes too :)

  2. Kim - what beautiful, inspiring words. Yes, it is important to remember that there is always hope.

  3. Beautiful words. I love this time of year. Even as things are dying, we are surrounded by beauty. xo
