Froglets

Yes, the tadpoles are still on my kitchen counter, but you see, exciting things are happening and we need to keep an eye on them...really.

Over the last few weeks we have watched as the little tadpoles began to get a little bigger. Then little legs began to peek out the back. On Friday one of our little ones had front legs. By Sunday we had three of them swimming around with all four legs, and yesterday morning one had lost his little tail and is now a full fledged froglet.

We check in on them frequently throughout the day wondering who will be the next to join this little froglet in his new habitat, we think we needs a little company.

  1. so awesome! Next year, I will have to find some tadpoles! Seems like an amazing science lesson. Did you guys purchase some to raise or did you just go out and collect them?

    1. It is pretty awesome. I remember doing it as a kid and it is so much fun to share it with Reece. We collected them from a creek, but you can buy them too.

  2. Hi! I love this post. There's tadpoles out at a local pond in the puddles and my little has been wanting to take some home. What did you feed them???? She's wanting to see the little miracle of change <3

    1. Thanks Elisha. We boiled up romaine lettuce and then froze it on a cookie sheet. From there we would crumble up a little bit of the leaf and sprinkle it in the water. They seem to love it. Now that we have froglets, we have been hunting for bugs to feed them. They will soon go back to the creek to forage on their own.

  4. Fun! I wanted to do this as well but I left it a little too late for this year...I guess I was a little busy! Reece must love watching them grow and change! Did you start off feeding them lettuce and now raw meat or bugs?? Just curious to know for next year! :)
