Our Weekend

We woke to snow on Saturday morning, a light dusting, with beautiful snowflakes still gently falling. I headed out right away, in the magic of it all, for a run. There is something about the first snow fall, and the beauty it bestows upon us...one of those things that never gets old. Back at home, Reece was already making little snowballs and tossing them around the yard. We enjoyed breakfast, eggs from the backyard, and then I headed out on my own to do some errands. I finished those errands and then hit a lovely little cafe to enjoy a cup of tea and read a letter from a friend. The letter arrived on Wednesday, and I didn't open it, I knew I would have this time at the cafe, so I saved it, I wanted to "catch up" with her over a cup of tea. I read her letter and then settled in to write to her. An hour later, I sipped the last bit of tea and sealed the envelope.

When I arrived home my two men were busy playing and crafting, and I headed to the kitchen to do a little creating of my own...body butter, healing salve, hand salve and lip balm were all made up, ready for customers and Christmas. The evening was spent reading, with a cup of tea and little chocolate.

The sun was shining Sunday morning, but there was a chill in the air. After breakfast we bundled up and headed out to a new to us trail. We hiked along the water all morning, soaking in the beauty of this spot. We will definitely be heading back again soon. We spent the afternoon at home. There was a little gardening, a little crafting, a walk up the road with the dog and a little prep work for the week ahead. A quiet evening followed, with a little more reading, tea in hand.

A slow, simple weekend, just the way we like things. How was your weekend?

  1. Your weekend is my ideal weekend :) We had many errands to run and while that was the part that was busy, I crammed in the quiet and solitude of a walk. Oh how I love my walks!!

  2. That sounds like a lovely way to spend the weekend Kim. I bet it was wonderful running in the cold air with snowflakes on your nose...and it sounds so cozy with tea and chocolate with your fam. Have fun exploring your new trail!

  3. You still have green on the trees? What a wonderful weekend. My weekend post will be up sometime today. My editor has an eye doctor appointment this morning... :)

    1. Well, not really. This is a cedar forest, they don't lose their leaves, so they are green all year long :)

  4. It's cold here on the coast, but we didn't get snow {although Columbia did}.
I loved that you saved your letter to read when you could really spend some time with it, that is something I must remember to do.
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful Monday.

    1. Yes, I chatted with my mom and dad, and they said the same thing...its chilly.

It was so lovely to save it Tracey. I often do when I get letters from this friend, it just feels so nice to catch up with her in a moment when I can really sit and take it all in with a cup of tea, much like we would do if we ever met in person.

It was a lovely Monday, hope yours was good too!

  5. That sounds like a lovely weekend. It's nice to get away for a quiet break now and again. Your photos are lovely as always. I really like the shelter. We don't have "real snow" yet, but there have been a few flurries here and there. Take care.

    1. Always nice to get away for a bit of quiet. It is often time in the woods alone for me, but when this letter came I knew a cup of tea in a cafe would be perfect, and it was :)

Thank you. There were all kinds of shelters on this trail. It is also a nature education center, so lots of school groups visit.

I wouldn't call what we had real snow, but it did hang around all day. And Reece enjoyed it, and managed to get enough together for a snow cone :)

    1. You bet, but just a dusting. Not "real" snow :)

  7. Lovely weekend! We enjoyed the snow... but it didn't last long for us. The kids are impatient for the winter weather to settle in. They have great plans for snow...

  8. Just reading about your weekend brought peace to my heart. I love having our little ones so close together in age--it brings many gifts with it--and chaos! And at times I wish there was a little less activity and little more quiet. Well, it will come.

I also loved reading about your letter "ritual," if you will. Letter writing is so special nowadays in this email world. Can make us feel so wonderfully connected to another just see their own words written in their own hand.

    1. That is so lovely to hear. It was definitely full of peace and calm. It will come, in time :)

Thank you. I love writing letters, and this year have challenged myself to write at least one letter a week, and so far I am on target. It has been really lovely to connect with people through hand written letters. This letter was actually from a lovely lady who I was partnered up with for a blog swap at the beginning of this year. We really connected and decided to continue writing to each other. Such a lovely way to get to know someone.

If you are interested in receiving a little happy mail, shoot me an email with your address, I would love to connect with you that way too. I was actually looking around your blog for your email address the other day :)

    1. Don't be, it is gone now. But it was pretty while it lasted. There will be much more to come though, and you can be sure I will have photos to share :)

  11. Sounds like a wonderful week-end indeed. And a little time alone is always good for the soul. I'm happy you could find that time for yourself. The hike looks beautiful. We were supposed to get snow but it passed us by. They are announcing some at the end of the week, maybe we'll get lucky! xo

    1. Always good for the soul, I always feel so refreshed and alive after a little bit of "me" time. It is a lovely spot, we have been talking about going back very soon. Too bad the snow missed you, hopefully you get some soon. I have heard we may get a little more this weekend too. Fingers crossed. xo
