Wow, you've really captured the light of the season in these photos. So lovely Kim. You can really sense how the season is turning in these images. Love the glow from the fire. AND, l have so many questions....is that honey in the first photo? and what cool art project is Reece working on in the second?
Thanks Chrisy, we turned our clocks back on the weekend and we have light in the morning again, so happy about that.
That is kombucha in the first photo. It is a fermented tea, so good. Yesterday was time to make a new batch, and send the current batch to its second ferment. Our project yesterday afternoon was wet felting. We were creating an image on wool felt with wool roving. You have to then wet it, and rub it well so the fibers begin to "stick" together. We then roll them in bamboo mats for a bit to create more friction, and really connect the fibers. They are drying now and the kiddos will hand stitch them together later this week and they will become lanterns for our Martinmas lantern walk on the weekend. The kids love wet felting, lots of fun, and you get to play with water and wool...can't beat that.
Your fire looks so inviting. We are heating with gas right now until my guys bring the woodstove back in [we take it out during the summer, no small feat]. I was very proud of myself that I remembered to play along. The last of the out of town company is now gone so I am looking forward to a return of my normal days.
Thanks Tracey. It is not wood burning though, propane. We had wood burning when we first moved in here, but then the insurance company did an inspection and refused to insurance us if we didn't remove it. That was almost 18 years ago. I would like to switch this one out for a wood burning one now, they have improved so much with the clearance requirements, but Justin, who grew up heating with wood, isn't as keen on it as me. I won't stop trying to convince him though :)
Thank you for playing along, it was so nice to see your post this morning. Enjoy the peace, quiet and solace that comes with the return of your normal days. xo
It was pretty perfect. And last night was the same, except there was knitting instead of a book. You know that fire is not too far from you, and I make a great cup of tea :)
I'm thinking this might just be the way I need to blog at the moment. I love taking photos, but I don't feel like writing much just now. Love your photos Kim. xo
It is getting dark in your neck of the woods isn't it? :) We are contemplating getting a small wood burning stove for our living room. I so enjoyed having a fireplace at our old rental house. Our home is small enough that we could easily eat it with wood for the few short months of cold weather here.
I feel so cozy looking at your pictures. The days are getting quite dark here too. I pick up our 4.5 year old from a Montessori daycare one day a week and we walk through the woods to get there. I pick her up at 4:00pm and it felt too close to dark to be walking even with the two big dogs. Today we rolled beeswax candles and put up some twinkle lights. I've been drinking so many chai teas and making homemade pumpkin spice or mint mocha coffees too. Tis the season for cozy and I love it (although by Feb I'm usually done and eager for spring). Wishing you a wonderful week.
Awe, that is so nice to hear Isis. The candles have been out here too, and the warming drinks and foods. I do love this time of year, cozy and snug in our little home, but like you come February I am about done with it :)
Thank you, we certainly try to have peaceful, calm days. They aren't always like that, but we try. I think I will be doing more of that last picture this evening, although maybe with some knitting needles instead of a book :)
