Hello Autumn
Today we officially welcome the autumn season, although it has felt very autumn like here for a few weeks now...cooler evenings, temperatures in the single digits, our first frost warning, leaves changing, soups cooking in the kitchen, and the return to baking bread and other goodies. Apple picking is in the plans this week, and a certain little man keeps talking about picking pumpkins. It is a wonderful time of year.
We will welcome autumn with a walk in the woods, apple print banners will be made, popcorn threaded and feeders filled for our feathered friends, soup is on the menu for lunch, and cinnamon apples will be roasted around the fire.
The shift from summer to autumn is one of my favourites, it is a breathtakingly beautiful time of year, and one we intend to enjoy and celebrate to its fullest.
Welcome autumn, it's so nice to see you again.

How I agree with you... breathtaking! My favorite time of year for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen is active here too : We canned and raosted 40 lbs of roma tomatoes last night. Today is about more tomato roasting (we have another 25 pounds in the garage!), making soup, roasting beets and Brussel sprouts for dinner. Hopefully the weather holds up and we can go outside today. We have not been so lucky as to have clear blue skies this passed week-end. But we still made the most of it.
Happy fall my friend! Wishing you the most wonderful of seasons.
xo
Don't you just love it when the kitchen is overflowing with activity and so much goodness. Enjoy!
DeleteHope you can get outside today, we will be out there no matter what :) Happy fall to you too! xo
you have listed everything I love about fall :) I'm so happy that summer is behind us and today I wore a jacket to retrieve the newspaper! Lovely photo :)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, that while I love each season, I am happy when they come to an end and a new one begins. I don't think I could handle living in a place without four distinct seasons. Enjoy the cooler weather.
DeleteJust rub it in Kim ;) No seriously, this morning I was able to leave the back door open for a little while it was so cool. While we will again reach 88 degrees today there is definitely a shift in the air making be one happy lady. I hope you enjoy a great Monday.
ReplyDeleteYikes, that is hot. If it makes you feel better, we will be warming up tomorrow for the rest of the week, but not quite as hot as you. We have been below normal temps the last week or so, but we will be returning to normal temps, which should make for a lovely sunshiny week.
DeleteI am so happy it's Autumn!! My favorite season. I think today, since it won't officially be Autumn until tonight we'll take a last "summer trip" to the beach and then tomorrow go for a walk in the woods! We went apple picking this weekend and I made the first apple crisp and pot of chili of the season!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed the beach. Much too cold for that here today, but the rest of the week looks promising.
DeletePlans are underway for apple crisp, apple cake and lots of apple sauce, we just need to get some apples picked. Hope you enjoyed your chili.
I like each season as it comes, but autumn is my favorite. Something just comes alive when the air gets cool. Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meryl, same to you!
DeleteThat last photo is stunning!
ReplyDeleteThank you! One of our favourite conservation areas :)
DeleteFunny I was thinking the same things this weekend. We took an early morning stroll through the woods and I noticed for the first time that sound of leaves swishing with each step. Oh, and I was wearing a heavy hoodie.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a wonderful sound? Yes, the sweaters and scarves have come out here too...loving it!
DeleteThe leaves have begun to change on our mountain trees, and the sides of the mountains are a brilliant red. We will be going up to camp at the end of the week, and I am excited to be relaxing in all that color. Yes, welcome fall.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can just imagine how wonderful that looks. Have a wonderful time camping, and take some photos :)
DeleteAutumn is my favorite season too! We are so looking forward to cooler weather and the changing colors.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
DeleteRoasting apples! Now there's a perfect idea for a crisp fall day! :)
ReplyDeleteWe love roasting apples. We actually couldn't do it today, the wind was too strong. An open fire when you are surrounded by forest on a windy day...not a good combination. But we will be roasting away on Saturday at a potluck we are hosting :) Can't wait!
DeleteOkay, I spoke too soon :)
DeleteThe wind died down a little bit, so Justin and Reece got a little fire going. We headed outside after dinner and enjoyed our cinnamon apples, roasted over the fire. It was perfection on this chilly autumn night.
i love autumn too ... even though we don't get the bright oranges and reds that the ontario and eastern canada gets. With your description of all the activities, I can already smell and picture your autumn kitchen !!!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for a spectacular display of colour this year. Last year was just stunning. Fingers crossed.
DeleteI'm not sure I have a favourite season, there's something lovely in each of them, but the change is always what makes it special; watching the seasons pass and looking forward to the fun that comes with each so I'll say a big welcome to autumn too :)
ReplyDeleteI am the same Carie, each season brings happiness to my days. So much goodness in each of them. It is the change that I love the most, the shift, saying good bye to one and hello to another. I think the shift from summer to fall is my favourite shift though, there is just something so special about it.
DeleteIt certainly is lovely where you live! After being on the east coast last week and getting to feel Autumn's presence first hand, it's hard being in California's 80 degree weather. ;) Autumn can still be magical here though too. We just have to look a little bit harder. Happy Autumn Kim!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Summer. Happy Autumn to you too!
DeleteI thought for sure that the trees would be a blaze in color already! Seems fairly green still in those pictures. We haven't seen a change in the temperature here but we sure have seen a change in the light. I noticed it very clearly today at about two pm during rest time. It looked more like 5pm light. I wanted to start dinner!
ReplyDeleteNot yet. They start to turn slowly at first, and then bam, they are full of colour for a few short weeks and then it is done. The main height of colour really only lasts a few days.
DeleteYes the light has changed here too, dark until about 6:30am and then dark again by 7:30pm, and it is getting darker with each passing day.
Happy autumn KC!
It does indeed feel as if we shifted into autumn a few weeks ago! So glad that it's now officially here! It really is one of our most favorite times of the year (and I have found myself the last several years wishing that David and I had gotten married in October instead of August). Happy autumn, dear friend! May this season be full of magic! xo
ReplyDeleteWishing you a season of magic too, my friend. xo
Deletea very hearty welcome to autumn indeed!
ReplyDeleteA lovely way to welcome the Autumn. Question. You said you've been in the single digits. Is Canada Fahrenheit or Celsius? Our leaves are all changing but I think the lowest we have been is 34*. have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteThat would be Celsius. Last week one night we dropped right down to 0, no frost though, the wind kept things moving :)
