Hello Stars

There are a few books Reece loves to read, over and over again. One of them is How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers. And if I am being honest, I really enjoy reading it to him. One afternoon after reading it I promised Reece the chance to stay up late to see the stars.

With a late afternoon nap in the car while we traveled home from a friend's house on Saturday, I knew if would be the perfect night for Reece to see the stars. He was so excited and kept asking when it would get dark. He jumped in the bath, and jumped out just as quick so he wouldn't miss the stars.

I started a little fire and we set up the blanket on the grass as the sun began to fade. And we waited, just like the boy in the story. And then we waited some more.

And finally, a star! Just a little one Reece said, but it was a star. Can you see it in the picture above?

And then another, and another, and before we knew it the whole sky was lite up with tiny twinkling stars. Reece was thrilled. And I was thrilled to, yet again, experience something through his eyes.

  1. Isn't amazing how our children make everything fresh and new for us again? Thanks for the reminder...it's time to lay on a blanket and look at the stars again!

  2. Oh, how wonderful! Finn recently asked when he could star gaze, but with it getting dark so late, as well as the light pollution in the city (meaning we would have to drive out of town), I am not sure when it will happen. I should try and make it work though... what an amazing experience for Reece!

    1. I guess the good news is in another month it will be dark out earlier, maybe then it will be more doable.

  4. Lovely! We like to follow planetary movement as well. You should show him Venus. It's always the first light to appear after sunset.
