Lately as we venture into the forest by our home Reece has been building homes for his friends. These friends change from day to day. One day it is a home for the frogs, the next day a home for the forest fairies and then another day a home for Clara. He collects little bits of nature and gets busy creating.
Watching him create, seeing how his mind is working and witnessing the pure joy he gets from this experience is amazing. One morning Justin and I sat back and watched for about 45 minutes while Reece went about creating the perfect home for his friends. We whispered quietly from a distance so we would disturb him. He asked us to help find a few things, so we jumped up happy to share in his experience. Then we went back to our spot and watched.
It was magical.
The next morning I ran these lovely trails and had to take a little stop by the "frog home". It had been disturbed, how exciting! I headed home and suggested it might be a good time to take Shelby for a walk. Reece agreed and asked if we could stop by the "frog home" to see if it had been used. I answered with a very excited "of course we can!"
You can imagine his pure delight upon noticing his little "frog home" had been slept in.
This delight lead him to more creating, another home had to be built, but not too close to this one. So we hiked a little bit more until he found the perfect spot and he got busy building another home.

Reece and the wee one here would get along well together. We build houses for 5 blue invisible kitties that go everywhere with us!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! I have no doubt they would get along wonderfully :)
DeleteSo sweet. I love the care he's taking in tending to his little friends
ReplyDeleteIt is really amazing to watch.
DeleteThis is just so wonderful, Kim. What a privilege to be witness to Reece's emerging wonder and interest. He is an inspiration. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Courtney. It is a privilege I am so happy to have been blessed with.
Deleteyes he must have been so excited to see his home put to use! and i can see he has a very thought out home with all the necessities- food, shelter, and some pretty decorations :) thanks for sharing kim!
ReplyDeleteIt was a very thought out plan let me tell you, and everything had to be just so. Thanks as always for hosting Heather :)
Deletesuper sweet!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jules.
DeleteGorgeous!!! x
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait for Bunny to start doing this... my brother and I used to build entire little villages and spent many an hour at it!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a joy to watch, it amazes me every time he builds one.
DeleteHow very sweet and what lovely homes he makes!!
ReplyDeleteI love this story Kim.
ReplyDeleteI also noticed the similarities in your first photo today and my photo on My post for Monday. My photo is in New Zealand. You are so lucky to have this bush beside your home. Since we have been in our home we have planted heaps of trees on our land so one day we will have our own forest. When we moved here there were only three wattle trees down the back.
Have a lovely week. Hope your study is going well. xxoo
Thanks Julie. Now that you mention it yes, very similar. I look forward to "seeing" your forest one day, it will be so very lovely I am sure.
DeleteThese are so wonderful. Isn't it the most amazing thing watching their imaginations create.
ReplyDeleteIt is totally amazing!
DeleteHow wonderful to be able to watch him be so creative. I think nature brings the best of us out and it's apparent it has a strong influence on Reece and all of your lives and that's wonderful to see.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to be a part of this and watch him. And I agree with you on the nature connection. It is such a big part of our lives and I am not quite sure what we would do without it.
