Change Is Good

For the last month or two, maybe a little longer, I have been feeling a little “off”. I have not been able to put my finger on why, and no amount of time in nature, with my little man or alone, journaling or meditating has brought any relief to this feeling.

Last week out of nowhere I got the sudden urge to simplify. I like to think we lead a pretty simple life. We don’t have a lot of “stuff”.  And I am not one to let things pile up. So this urge was kinda strange. But I went with it. I made a list, if you didn’t know this about me, I am a list maker. I listed what I felt needed to be simplified in our home and got started. I will slowly work on this throughout the month on rainy days and moments of free time.

You may be wondering what this has to do with change. Well I had an appointment with my therapist on Friday. Annette is an amazing healer with a range of modalities to work with including massage, acupuncture, osteopathy, cranial-sacral and energy work. I should say I have not seen Annette in four years. The last time I saw her for a treatment was when I was pregnant with Reece and was seeing her for some acupuncture.  Our paths did cross after Reece was born when she did some osteopathic work and cranial-sacral with Reece in the months following his birth.

I happened to run into her a few weeks ago and mentioned I needed to come in and see her. I really do believe there are no coincidences, everything happens for a reason. So I booked an appointment with Annette. During our conversation before she began our session she asked why I was there. I mentioned the fact that I have felt “off balance” for a while and just can’t seem to shake it. She asked a few more questions and I mentioned my sudden urge to clean out our home and simplify it more than it already is. Her response: “you are getting ready for something. You are clearing out the old to make room for the new.”  Hmmmm...she could be on to something I thought. So we explored that a little more, but couldn’t really come up with what this change might be. We tried to connect it to my doula training, my nutrition business, even changes happening within our family, but nothing really connected.

So, I hopped onto her table and she began to take a look at what might be going on physically. It turns out I was completely out of alignment. My whole right side from my ankle through my pelvis to my neck was out of alignment. No wonder I had been feeling a little off.

I relaxed in Annette’s healing hands for an hour. It was amazing and although I still have the urge to purge and am still feeling a little unsettled, I do feel a little more balanced.  And now I am sitting back and waiting, open to the possibilities the Universe has in store for me.

Change is good.

  5. Feeling a little off is just the worst. It follows into everything. I always find when I feel off I can't cook well and I can't create anything.

I've been feeling off all summer. I think it's the house we live in. It's too big. We're down sizing soon. I've been doing a major purge of stuff and it's helped a lot.

I hope you feel better soon!

    1. Thanks KC. Luckily it really hasn't flowed into anything else, it is just this feeling and I can't shake it. I have to admit since my appointment of Friday I do feel much better, more balanced, but not totally. I have another appointment in a few weeks, until then I am cleaning, simplifying even more and waiting to see what the Universe has in store for me.

    2. KC... we too live in a house that is too big. Been talking to our realtor all summer. I can't say it will be easy to leave here... the location is perfect.. but the house is too big. Patiently waiting for the right home to find us!

  7. Glad you got realigned. Sometimes that makes all the difference. I feel the sudden urge to recommend mugwort to you. I don't often recommend herbs unless asked but for some reason that herb has suddenly strongly popped into my mind after reading this. Does mugwort grow where you are? If not, let me know and I'll mail you some if you're interested. I think it might be helpful for you during this time of transition.

    1. You know, the more I talk about this, the more I hear that others feel the same way. I am a little tempted to take a look at the planets and their alignment...maybe something is up?

      Enjoy those massages :)

I believe everything happens for a reason too. So glad you ran into her and she got your body back in alignment. :)

  11. Kim....

I often get this way just before spring. For the past eight years, I have been able to notice a seasonal cycle. is this new? or familiar? just a thought.

regardless... a hug during this time.

    1. You know now that you mention it, I think it did happen last year too, but not quite to this extent. I do remember doing some "spring" cleaning and purging this time last year, so maybe it is a seasonal thing. I can say I manage to get my office completely cleaned out today and it feels so awesome!!!! Everyday I do a little bit more to clean, purge and simplify and everyday I am feeling a little better.

  12. Hi Kim,

I've been meaning to comment on this post for a while now, but I keep getting sidetracked! I can totally relate to it, especially your thoughts on simplifying, synchronicity and serendipity. Hope you're feeling much better. Embrace the freshness that comes with change.

Take good care and catch you soon.

    1. Thanks Renee, I am feeling better, slightly more balanced. I have been busy cleaning, purging and simplifying so I am sure that has helped. And I am trying to spend as much time as I can outside, in nature, just enjoying life.
