Summer Evening Walks

Our quiet country road

Summer in the country is awesome for many reasons, and one of  those is summer evening walks. We try to get out every night after dinner for a walk together, the three of us and our dog Shelby.  It is usually very quiet, the birds are singing their last tunes of the day, little treasures are found and sometimes, if we are lucky, wildlife is spotted.

And he's off!

"Watch me spin mom."

Justin and I follow along as Reece burns up that last bit of energy

These walks are really special because they have been a part of our lives since we moved here fifteen years ago. Back then it was just Justin and I. Over the years these walks have included three dogs and now they include Reece.

These after dinner summer evening walks are very special to our little family. It is a chance for us to be in the moment with each other, to reconnect after the busyness of our day and to enjoy the beauty right outside our front door together, as a family.

Do you take an evening family walk?

  2. I love your country lane. We talk evening walks too, most nights, but I look forward to our upcoming move and like you, having more solitude and nature on our strolls.

  3. We do have an evening walk together. Usually it's just to the end of the street and back because it's still so hot outside. I love seeing where you live!

  4. It's so beautiful where you are. We love evening walks together. Lately we've been in the middle of a heatwave and have had to scale back, but it seems the weather is breaking a bit and we will be able to get back out with our three dogs. Walking as a family each day is something I'm most looking forward to when little lady makes her arrival.

  5. we do often take a family walk, usually on the weekend and in the morning as the heat here in the afternoon is oppressive. it's always relaxing and i love seeing the handful of nature treasures the kids bring home :)

  6. I love the simplicity and beauty of your posts. It reminds me of the lanes here in Cornwall, we love to do the same, or just wonder around the farm in the evening. I never think to do a post on the simple everyday things, but may be I should as it really is so beautiful. Thank you for linking up with Country Kids.

  7. I walk in the wee morning hours before my family is awake and my husband often walks late at night when I am about ready for bed! We use to walk together and still will stroll once in awhile, but I am very short legged and he is very tall so us splitting up for this activity works for me! Love your country road!

    1. I like the idea of an early morning walk, I use to do this before Reece was born and I do hope to return to it, but right now the morning snuggles are too hard to resist.

    1. Thanks, we do too :) I think each season has something special about it. I love summer, but I also love winter - sweaters, knitting in front of the fire, hot tea, skating, early dark nights, warm soup for dinner, winter walks...all things I love about winter.
