A Simple Summer Pleasure

Picnics...in short, we love them. There is something so special about eating outside under a tree, by the lake or on the side of a trail sitting on a blanket or two, enjoying a lovely meal with Mama Earth.

Reece and I head out for a picnic at least two, sometimes three or four times a week.  Whenever we hike there is a pack of food that comes with us. If we plan a little visit to the lake, we pack some food. Pretty much anytime we go out I will find an excuse to stop somewhere special so we can eat, picnic style.

On Sunday night as I was preparing dinner, Justin poked his head in from outside to ask if we were eating on the front porch or the back deck. I thought for a minute and then said, neither, we are going to eat at a secret spot tonight.

So I packed up the dinner I cooked, we grabbed a few things and headed to the conservation area. A few months ago I found a lovely little spot at the conservation area. I have been visiting it regularly since, always alone. On Sunday I took Justin and Reece, and we had a lovely dinner time picnic there.

It was so simple, yet so full of beauty, love and family. We enjoyed our meal, took a little hike and found some raspberries for dessert.

It was the perfect evening and I know we will be visiting my secret spot again soon for a dinner time picnic.

    1. It was, we had a great time. Our meal was black bean tacos with mashed avocado, cashew cream sauce and salsa on sprouted corn tortillas. We had some kale chips and raspberries on the side. Yes it was delish.

You can find the recipe here http://yourgreenbaby.ca/?p=1119 We use the black bean mixture for tacos and quesadillas.

  2. Love it! We have a favorite dinner-time picnic area too. I remember clearly the day Zinnia learned to say the word picnic and she gets so much joy out of being the one to suggest the idea.

  10. How lovely, Kim. I love eating outside. Any chance I get we'll eat outside rather than in, especially during the day time in winter. Your picnic looks so yummy and that view!! Gorgeous! Wow, raspberries growing in the wild? How lovely. We have blackberries growing wild over here in Australia but I've never seen raspberries in the bush. x
