Yarn Along

Two of my favourite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Joining Ginny for Yarn Along.

Well, I am still working on the hat. With a few sniffles around the house this week, knitting was on the back burner. And while I did manage to get a few more rows added to the hat, it would have been a whole lot more had I not started over...twice! Yup, distraction got the best of me, twice, and I ripped it out and started again, twice!  The perfectionist in me just couldn’t keep going; I would look at my mistakes and always feel I should have started over, so I did.

So, it is coming along, slowly and hopefully will be completed by next week, fingers crossed. I had plans to look for something else to cast on, but time got away from me. I did pick up some new yarn, no idea what I am going to do with it. I liked it and it was on sale, so you know....
I am still reading the Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature and will be for quite some time, it is 500 pages and I am on page 50, so expect to see this book hanging around for a while.
Here’s a little excerpt from the introduction:
“To make a long story short, we call this Coyote’s Guide because it entices each of us off our beaten path, to experiment with creative approaches, to do something different from what’s generally being tried. Coyote goads us to be willing to have a true sense of play and abandon, knowing that this new, uncharted way will truly be the only way out.
The mentoring approach in Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature challenges convention. It requires that we who wish to mentor others get in touch with and trust our own Coyote selves – teasing us out of our indoor worlds and leading us all to connect in an intimate and meaningful way with the natural world and our natural selves.
The archetype of Coyote empowers radical medicine – root based, environmental education that restores the original bond between humans and the rest of nature.
We have never needed it more than now.
If anyone holds the antidote to Nature Deficit Disorder, if anyone can lead us and our children from our concrete roads into the beating heart of our natural habitat, and wake us up to life – Coyote can.”
Why am I reading this book? To connect on a deeper level to my natural environment, to learn more about how to mentor Reece on his journey to connect with his natural environment and to open myself to the Coyote’s way.
What are you knitting and reading these days?

    1. Thanks. The starting over wasn't easy, either time, but as I said to my hubby last night, so happy I did.

I will keep you posted on the book, so far I am really enjoying it.

  3. I am so with you on ripping out the oops. Drives my husband crazy because I evidently make a really disgusted face while I'm doing it. He says that it looks like I hate the yarn or project...at that time, I usually do :) This book of yours sound amazing, but not light reading. Let me know how it goes.

    1. Yeah, my husband was looking at me strangely as I was ripping it out, both times :) I didn't hate the project as much I as hated myself for getting distracted in the first place. And you are right, it is not light reading, but it is interesting. I will keep you posted.

  4. I hate having to rip it out, but, if you are not too far along, it is worth it in the end!!

  6. looks like a book I need to pick up! Coyote medicine has been working into my life lately- to the point where I almost steered off a highway entry loop because I saw a coyote.

    1. Yikes!! Funny you should mention that, the title of the book actually came to be because one of the authors was taken off his daily plan when he spotted a Coyote and got out of his car to follow and study it. In a meeting right before his experience they had decided against the title Coyote's Guide, but this completely changed his mind.

  7. I'm reading a book that you suggested. Hold Onto Your Kids - I'm not sure what I think of it so far. It almost starts sooo doomsday that I'm having a hard time pushing through to the "good stuff"... there is good stuff right?
    :)
