Mothering with Mindfulness Sponsor - Little Homestead in the Desert

Today I would like to introduce you to one of my March sponsors KC Pagano of Little Homestead in the Desert.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a mama of two, and wife to a really smarty pants Italian who is also my best friend. We’re one of those crunchy, attachment parenting, and natural living type of families.  My first passion was photography, but then I learned to cook. Learning to cook became a bigger passion then I could have ever imagined.  I’m a hobbyist and fill my time with things to do.  I like to be out in nature and go backpacking and hiking. I love to travel and watch foreign films. I like to listen to foreign music while I cook dishes I can pronounce the names of.  I love co-sleeping with snuggly babies.  I am infatuated with India and had I not gotten married and had kids I might be there now in an ashram doing yoga and cooking to pay for my room.
When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging when I was six months pregnant with my first daughter Sofia. I had just moved into a new house and was a newbie at this natural living, slower paced life style. I wanted to document all these changes I was making. It was a good way for me to keep busy and have a focus.
Your blog features your talents in the kitchen, at the sewing machine, in the garden, and your journey leading a green lifestyle, what inspires you to do this?
I love the challenge of making things from scratch. It feels really good to know I’ve done it myself. I guess I never got past the two year old “I do it myself” phase.  The more your make from scratch the more you want to make from scratch.  With all of these things you have to put your own hand into it.  From growing vegetables to making sun hats you have some element of control over what you use and produce.  I like knowing where my food comes from, who made my clothes and that I am leaving a slightly smaller foot print behind in the world.
And during this time you also started an Esty shop, tell us a little about that.
Yes, I started my Etsy shop, Olive and Owl, two years ago as a creative outlet. I was learning to sew and making all these neat things and wanted to sell them to try and supplement my crafting budget. I try my best to use natural eco friendly materials like cotton, wool, and linen and eco safe paints when possible.

What is your favourite way to relax and take care of yourself?
The most relaxing thing to me is taking a hike.  When I really want to clear my mind or get my mind in order I take a nice long hike. I like the feeling of having put my body to work.  But right now, with two babies not much hiking gets done. So it would seem that knitting works for relaxing.  I feel very calm after knitting.  Taking care of myself…to be honest it’s kind of on the back burner, but I’m working on it.  I do try to eat the best I can, as I am breastfeeding and trying to set an example for a toddler.
You have a free day, no plans, what do you do with it?
Oh these are always fun and usually end up with an impromptu road trip.  I love, love, love road trips.  The Southwest is notorious for road trips, see Easy Rider.  We’ve got so many roads and so much to see.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share a little bit about yourself with us. It was wonderful getting to know you a little better KC.
