Tuesday Morning in the Woods

Blue skies and sunshine greeted us yesterday morning, and so off to the woods we went. We were on a mission to find wild strawberries, and we succeeded. We picked, we ate, we gathered some to bring home, and then we walked on to our favourite spot on this trail, the high point, where we took in the view, turned our faces to the sun, and took a deep soul filling breath.

Ah, Mother Nature, you always know exactly how to soothe my soul.

  3. It looks just so peaceful where you are Kim. I would love to head to the woods, but right now the ticks, snakes and heat are so prolific that I will have to wait.

    1. It was peaceful there yesterday Tracey, Reece and I had the entire conservation area to ourselves, not a person in sight. It was wonderful! Yes, the woods can be a little creepy at times, we don't see many snakes up here, but unfortunately the ticks have made their way up here. We use our tick spray, and do tick checks every night.

  5. Wild strawberries! Ours have not come up yet but there are plenty of flowers in bloom. We usually make strawberry solstice jam but this time I think we will need to improvise as the season is a little late.

    1. We found the first ones on Monday, in the forest we walk every day, and this little spot is one we harvest at every year, as we know a lot grow there. It was amazing to have those sweet little berries with lunch yesterday.

We will be making solstice jam, but not with wild strawberries. Our strawberry farm is open for picking, so we are headed there on Friday to pick as much as we can. I will be making jam all weekend :)

  11. Oh those strawberries! I can imagine how wonderful it must have felt to our ancestors to find berries after a long cold winter eating dehydrated meat and dried tubers. I mean I think thinking a little bit far back in time....
