"A photo of my little man, once a week, every week, in 2015"

Reece, a second trip to the strawberry patch because you can never have too many strawberries tucked away for the long, cold winter to come. Once again you picked, and ate, searching out the best berries, and promptly eating them. I love that you have a connection to your food, understanding where it comes from, and how much work goes into growing it. This farm has been a part of our seasonal rhythm for five years, and not only do you have a connection to the berries grown here, but to the farmer and his wife, who greet us, talk to us, and welcome us onto their farm to pick. It's a special place, and it is so wonderful to share it with you.

  1. Lovely photo and lovely memories you are building for him. We have a family owned apple orchard that is similar for our family. They don't have the fancy rides and craziness of other commercial orchards, just a farmer and his father that greet us every year :)

    1. It is, keeps my little man protected from that sun, and also means I don't have to try and get sunscreen on his face, ears and neck :)

Thanks Erica, hope you guys are having a great weekend too!

  4. It's so important for kids to have a connection to the food they eat. I think Reece will always appreciate these times with you and he'll have a better relationship with his food too.

    1. I think so too Jennifer, and I love that he already knows that food comes from the backyard, and from local farms around our home. Yes, we do hit the grocery store, but when we can buy local and support our farmers, and our neighbours, we do.

    1. That is wonderful to hear. We are at a point now where we remembers from year to year, picking at this farm, and it makes my heart sing when he asks when we are going picking.

  7. Oh, what a lovely picture! How jealous I am. Our self-pick hasn't opened yet. Not enough strawberries. Should any day now though and we cannot wait! Looks like a lovely spot. So glad you guys have been enjoying such fun summer weather already. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for July to be a bit more complacent.

    1. Thanks Yanic. Really, no strawberries yet...wow! I hope the farms open soon, and you cat get out there for some picking. We had so much fun, and Reece was such a great picker this year.

This farm is really lovely, small and very welcoming. They do chemical free raspberries and currents too, so we will be heading back in a few weeks to pick again. Can't wait!

  10. Perfect Summer picture. We've been to a really small, but very local place a couple of times now - it's basically a gorgeous garden attached to a small farm shop, they sell meat from the animals they raise and you can also go and harvest various bits and pieces from their garden. But I think we may hit the larger fruit farm at the weekend too, as you say, you can never have too many strawberries!
