So, as you are well aware from the pictures I have posted
over the last week, our chickens have arrived on our little homestead and we
couldn’t be happier.
It took awhile for these lovely little chicks to find our
home. We should have had them about a month ago. They were being hatched in a
kindergarten class, were suppose to stay for a week and them come on home to
us. Unfortunately there was a little misunderstanding and the chicks were sent
home with someone else. To say we were a little heartbroken would be an understatement.
Lucky for us the farmer was handing off another set of eggs
to another kindergarten class to be hatched and she informed us that without a
doubt these ones would be ours. So, we sat back and waited. It was hard, especially
for Reece.
I am happy to say the lovely little chicks have been with us
for ten days now and it is totally amazing!
Each one has its own little personality. Both Justin and
Reece have picked their favourites and I just love them all. We are still
working on their coop, which should be ready by the weekend. For now they are
living in a Rubbermaid container, inside a dog crate in our little cottage in
the backyard. It is the perfect place for them for now.
You can bet there will be a few more chicken posts over the
summer as we settle into this new adventure.
They're so funny. I know Reece is enjoying his little flock.
ReplyDeleteOh he is!!! Can't wait to see them in the morning and saying good night is the last thing he does before bed. He loves them!
DeleteI think I would like to own chickens. Not now but someday :)
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty awesome :)
Deletethey sure are cute! i remember when our ducks lived inside in a big bin-- they are just so fun to watch!!
ReplyDeleteDucks, how fun! We were actually going to get four baby ducks to go along with this flock, but decided eight chicks was enough to start. Maybe next year...
DeleteOh, we've wanted chickens for a while now. LOVE your pics, they made me laugh!! Thanks for posting :D
ReplyDeleteSwoon...they are adorable. I bet you guys are enjoying them.
ReplyDeleteWe are!
DeleteCan't wait for more chicken posts! I'm sure Reece is having a blast with his new fluffy friends!! My youngest son's class watched chickens hatch in his class this year~ so fun for they all.
ReplyDeleteThere will be plenty Kelly :) Reece is having a great time with them, and before him the kindergarten class really enjoyed their time with them. Picking them up was hard as they all said good bye.
Deletewow they look like they've gotten quite a bit bigger! so cute!
ReplyDeleteThey have! We are amazed at how fast they grow, seems like every morning we go out and they are bigger.
DeleteSince you are vegan will you be eating the eggs? I really love they way they look out the window. I love telling Sofia how we will one day have chickens when we're in our own home. I can't wait to see your little birds get bigger and bigger.
ReplyDeleteWe are vegetarian, not vegan. We eat eggs, only from our farmer, and soon, only our eggs. We also eat honey, local only. Other than that we are a plant based family :)
DeleteI will keep sharing pictures as they grow, it is all so exciting!
Look at those cuties! Great photos on the window! Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gretchen and you can bet there will be more :)
DeleteYou must have been so disappointed the first time.
ReplyDeleteThese chicks are gorgeous. Love all the photos, but especially the one with the chick looking out the window. So cute. xxoo
We were, but so happy to have these little ones with us now.

ReplyDeleteI agree on both counts!
DeleteOh my gosh! What wonderful photographs! Your chickens are unbelievable cute! Your son must be enjoying all his new 'playmates'!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how they grow!

Thanks Kelly. Reece is loving every minute of it. Seeing the chicks is the first thing he wants to do in the morning and the last thing at night.
