Yarn Along

Two of my favourite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Joining Ginny for Yarn Along.

Well, the front and the back of my vest are complete, I just need to spend a bit of time finishing up the little bits and I should be wearing it by the weekend. A little part of me, just a little part, is kinda happy it is still a little chilly in our part of the world...it means I get to wear my vest!

On the reading front, The Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature is still ongoing. To be honest, I haven’t really picked it up this week.  I dug into another book that has been sitting patiently for me, Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves by Naomi Aldort.  It came highly recommended to me by Rachel over at the Lusa Organics blog Clean.  I am really enjoying it and love the many real life examples she includes.  Her ideas about parenting fall into line with what we are already believe...Reece is a human being, who deserves to be respected, to be heard and to be loved, as we all do. Well, I am not a huge fan of parenting books, I do like to read a few, take what I like and leave behind what I don't. I have from the start parented from my gut, and will continue to do so regardless of what any book tells me.

My goal is to finish up reading Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves this week, as well as finish reading the mentoring part of The Coyote’s Guide.  Next week will see a big shift in reading for me as I jump full force into doula training. I registered for my doula training course back in March, but have been waiting for a few things to settle into place before I jump in and get to it.  You can expect to see a lot of childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting and doula books over the next little while.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  4. I'm so excited for you! I think it would be so awesome to be a doula! I had such amazing experiences with the birth of my boys and I think all women should be able to celebrate and enjoy the beauty of it....Ahem, pushing soap box back under the desk before I get wound up.....On a lighter note, go ahead and try socks...they aren't that hard and do offer a great deal of satisfaction. They were one of the first things I learned how to knit - I had a great mentor who helped. Turning the heel is the coolest thing.

    1. Awe, thanks Melissa. I am really excited about it. I loved being pregnant and bringing Reece into this world in our home with the people we loved around us was totally amazing. My hope is to be a wonderful support for women so they can enjoy the amazing experience it is.

On the socks, I will try soon, I promise :)

  5. I appreciate the slightly chillier mornings and evenings too. I don't especially like hot weather. Very exciting news becoming a doula. I wish I had had someone like that when giving birth to my children.
