I made it in the house just in time to cook dinner Saturday night, nettle pizza, and yes, it was enjoyed on the back deck. The rest of the evening was dedicated to rest and reading. I am reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes...have you read it? If you haven't, you should, so good.
Sunday morning dawned with a beautiful sunrise, and the promise of a wonderful day ahead. We walked with friends, in the forest, to see the trilliums, and then enjoyed a potluck lunch back at our place. After lunch the kids played, the adults chatted, and the sun shone bright and strong. Our friends left mid afternoon, and after tidying up I had planned to plant a few more seeds, but instead my body sank into the hammock with a cool drink and my book. It was wonderful. After dinner, we lingered outside, enjoying the warm evening, and soaking up the last of the sunshine.
And today, yes, we have one more day, it's a long weekend here in Canada. We have no plans for today, a walk in the woods, a little garden work, we don't quite know. It is suppose to rain, so maybe I will curl up with my book and a cup of tea. What I do know is we have a full day ahead of us, a day to do whatever we like, and we are going to enjoy it.
How was your weekend?
Joining Karen
It's raining here too, so I might follow your lead and curl up with a book! Our weekend was full of garden work too, although it has turned grey and colder here, so no meals outside or time in the hammock! I'll check that book recommendation out for when I finish the one I am reading now...I haven't heard of it but always love to discover something new. Enjoy your extra day...however you end up using it! Have fun, Em xx
ReplyDeleteWell at least your garden is getting watered, right? Mother Nature gave us a gift today, and the rain has held off, the sun is shining and I spent a good bit of time in the garden today. The rain is suppose to fall overnight, which is perfect for all those seeds I planted.
DeleteI finished the book last night Em, so good. Highly recommend it.
Thanks Em. xo
I wish it was a long weekend here in the states, I have paper work waiting on me.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've read Me before you...have a hankie near by.
Emerson has her own little garden too, she has been saving seeds all year. I love passing on skills and knowing they will be carried on for years to come.
Have a great, great, Monday.
It was so good Tracey, I finished it last night. Hankie indeed needed :)
DeleteIt is such a joy to share all of this with Reece, to pass on the things I have learned over the years, and watch it all trickle down to him.
Thanks Tracey, we had a great day, the rain held off, and the sun is shining. Have a great week!
Your weekend sounds like the perfect combination of work and play. I look forward to seeing pictures of Reece's garden and yours. :-) I spent hours in the garden on Saturday myself, getting all the weeding done, some more seeds put into the soil, plants added here and there... Sunday was more rest than work and that included listening to a friend play in a band. Fun.
ReplyDeleteIt was Anke, and it really could not have been better. I will have to add some pictures of Reece's garden in my next Around the Garden post.
DeleteSounds like you had a good weekend too. Enjoy your week.
Your life always sounds so tranquil and quiet- it's really so beautiful! I have read that book and loved it- she's such a great writer, in my opinion. Well done on the garden, your little man is so blessed to learn and love by you and your hubby!

Awe, thank you Chelsea. It feels pretty tranquil most of the time, but we do have our moments, much like any other family.
DeleteI agree with you on Jojo Moyes, this is the fourth book of hers that I have read, and she is a wonderful writer. I finished Me Before You last night, it was so good.
xo
i must get a hammock...and join you!!! Enjoy your Victoria Day!!!xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Erica, hope you guys are enjoying your long weekend. And yes, you must get a hammock, so relaxing.
DeleteWhat a wonderful weekend, glad it's still going on. I'll look out for that book, and Reece's garden plot sounds great, how lovely that he gets his own patch too.
ReplyDeleteTotally wonderful, and even better today as Mother Nature gave us a gift, and the rain held off. It will be here overnight as we sleep, which is perfect!
DeleteYes, Reece loves his little garden plot, this is his fourth growing season, and each year he looks forward to it, and plans for months what he is going to plant. Super cute!
Happy Victoria Day!
ReplyDeleteYour week-end weather was 36 hours off of ours. Saturday was cold and gray, yesterday warmed up mid morning and today is gorgeous without a cloud in sight. I have to ask, how did you get your calendula blooming already? Mine are only a few inches high! Do you start them indoors? If so, how early before planting? I might have to do that next year for sure. :-)
Thanks Yanic, same to you!
DeleteMother Nature gave us a gift today...sunshine! It has been a beautiful day, rain coming overnight, which is perfect for all the seeds I planted today :)
Yes, mine from seed are still pretty small, about 5 inches tall, that one is from the herb farm we visited last week. I had promised myself not to buy any calendula, as I started quite a few plants from seed, but when I saw the blooms I couldn't resist, so I picked up a plant. Justin only smiled as he carried it out to the car.
It sounds like such a nice weekend, Kim. I loved seeing your local flowers blooming. I could really stand to have a hammock around here... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer, it was really lovely. I think you should definitely get yourself a hammock, I highly recommend spending a few summer afternoons swinging under a two trees, relaxing and reading.
DeleteSounds pretty perfect to me! And I love the apple blossom - it reminds me of my childhood:)
ReplyDeleteIt was Carie, thanks. I love apple blossoms, you really don't want to know how many pictures I took of them :)
DeleteSounds like the perfect weekend. Lovely photos too. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie. xo
DeleteLong weekends are so nice. Loving the flower photos. It seems summer is creeping up everywhere these days! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteThey are the best Summer, and we truly enjoyed it. Thanks, we have so many flowers in bloom right now it is making me giddy :) It is certainly creeping up here, and we are loving it.
DeleteHappy week to you too! xo
Our weekend had beautiful weather too! We finished the chicken coop and finish putting new flooring our bedroom. We sank into bed exhausted every night with good hard work.
ReplyDeleteThat is great to hear KC!
DeleteI've missed your blog. This is such a beautiful place to stop and soak up some of your peace. I am slightly envious that you are planting already. I killed all my seedlings :( it's to cold to plant here still. I'm looking forward to watching your gardens grow again this year. So lovely. Shine on!
ReplyDeleteAwe, thank you my friend. Sorry spring hasn't arrived in your world yet, we kinda skipped it and went straight to summer. I do hope the warmer temperatures find you soon.
DeleteWhat a wonderful weekend! I do hope it warms up enough for time in our hammock ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope it warms up for you too :)
DeleteSounds fantastic. I'm loving all the blooming flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, so am I. They make me happy :)
DeleteThanks for the book recommendation. Looks like a good one. I'll be adding it to my list!
ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome. It is a great book, finished it Sunday night :)
DeleteOh, I loved that book! I've loved of hers so far, now that I think about it. It's amazing the difference in your photos in such a short period of time - all the flowers and color! And thank you so much for the little package, it made our day! The girls already have return letters for Reece written and possible plans to come and live with you. :) I'll be writing soon. Glad the garden is going well and you guys had a good weekend. Have a great week. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was so good! I finished it on Sunday night, in tears. This is the fourth book of hers I have read, and like you, I have loved them all. Last Letter to Your Lover was another big time favourite of mine.
DeleteSo happy the package arrived. Reece is hooked on the polymer clay now. He has so much fun with it.
Hehe, pack them up, and fly them over here :) They would be more than welcome to visit anytime.
Wishing you a lovely week too. xo
Oh Kim, the pictures are just gorgeous and your weekend sounds truly divine! I'll be sure to add that book to my reading list as well.
ReplyDeleteNettle Pizza sounds intriguing! The girls recently learned about Nettle Soup so that one's on our radar too. Have you ever made it? What do Nettles taste like?
I hope you had a lovely long weekend! Was it Victoria Day by you?! xo
Thanks Shel. It was a lovely weekend, and yes, it is a must read. I think you would really enjoy it, but it does bring a few tears at the end.
DeleteIt is delicious. We also had nettle soup last week for dinner one night too. Nettles are on the menu most nights right now, as it is ready to eat :) Once cooked and added to soups, or pizza they really don't have much of a taste, maybe a slightly earthy taste, but not too much. The soup I make is a leek, potato and nettle soup, when finished it is the most amazing shade of green, and tastes so good.
It was Victoria Day, and it was wonderful...an unexpected day of sunshine :)
It sounds like you had a wonderfully relaxing and productive weekend. It is good to have warm temperatures and sun back.
ReplyDeleteIt is so good to have the sun and warm temperatures back Kathleen, and we are loving it. Hope you guys are too.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful weekend Kim, and your amazing garden must be a lovely place to kick back and relax.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see some pictures of Reece's vegetalble plot.
Thanks Emma, it was. I like to think it is, our friends to love coming here, and we so enjoy having them share our space with us.
DeletePost coming tomorrow on Reece's garden :)
I was surprised at how much I loved that book! Glad you like it too, and it was an easy read. I loved your weekend and it was filled with what brings you joy :)
ReplyDeleteIt was so good, although I would have loved to have seen a slightly different ending...
DeleteYes Karen, it was, and I so enjoyed it.
Yay for warmth and sunshine. Sounds like you all had a relaxing and fun weekend. I love it when the days flow along seamlessly.
ReplyDelete.
Me too, it feels like everything in the world is just right when it happens :)
Deletesounds like a perfect weekend!!
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty awesome!
DeleteOh its looking so beautiful in your part of the world right now :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is Aimee, finally, and we are loving every minute of it :)
DeleteSounds like a perfect weekend! We have a long weekend ahead of us and even though we just returned from our vacation, I am looking forward so much to these days, not because of the relaxation factor but simply celebrating being back home! I have read Me Before You and found it very touching!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was. Enjoy your long weekend, and enjoy being home, I know how wonderful it feels to be back at home and to sink into your space again.
Deleteaw thats sounds delightful! Mine was crazy with my grandads 80th birthday. Crazy but good. Id like a bit more gardening time though. Stunning pictures too!
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty lovely. 80th birthday, how exciting! I hope you get some gardening time soon. Thank you!
DeletePS Happy birthday :)
Sounds perfect to me! What kind of camera do you use? I've been thinking about purchasing a new one and those shots of the flowers are beautiful. Let me know!
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty close to that :) Camera...a Nikon D3200. Got it a few years ago after saving for far too long. I love it, and highly recommend it.
Deletesounds like an absolutely perfect weekend :) i will have to check out that book... i'm on the hunt for a new read.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great read Jenny, but have the tissues ready at the end.
DeleteSeems like a lovely weekend and what pretty photos!
