{On Mothering}

Join me this week, as we head into Mother's Day, for a little series called {On Mothering}.
I have asked four bloggers, and mothers, to share a little something from their mothering experience.
The only information I gave them was the title of the series, the rest I left up to them.

Today, I share a piece I wrote for this series.

The Journey of Mothering

November 2008

July 2009

October 2010

October 2011

November 2012

November 2014

On the day your were born
New journeys began.
Yours as a new being,
Mine as mother.

As with all new journeys
There was excitement and joy,
Fear and uncertainty,
But when I looked in your eyes
All I saw was love.

Each day as you grew,
I grew too,
Shedding layers of who I was
To become who you needed me to be.

Together we learned,
Hand in hand,
Heart to heart,
To live slowly,
Simply and mindfully.

Mothering you is a gift
I get to unwrap with each new sunrise.
Inside I find you,
And more of me,
Entwined, connected,
Sharing our journey,
Mother and son,
Together.

I am a mother because of you.
I have the honour of mothering
Because you chose me.

The same excitement and joy,
Fear and uncertainty
Of our first days together
Still greet me each day.
But I am different now.
Your lessons for me
Have been profound and life changing.

You have taught me
To love deeply,
To surrender to what is
To accept that which I cannot change,
To live fully and mindfully,
To be here, now, with you.

The act of Mothering
Has changed my entire being,
For the better.
Mothering has been the catalyst
To dig deep, and truly understand who I am,
While watching you become who you are.
It is a journey like no other,
And so much more than I ever expected.

On the day your were born
A wonderful journey began,
Today it continues.
With anticipation, I wait,
To see where it takes us next.

The biggest thanks go out to Coco, Tiffany, Emily, and Tracey for taking the time to share some of their Mothering experiences on the blog this week. It was a pleasure to have you ladies in my space, and I am so grateful to have friends such as you on this Mothering journey. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Wishing my mom, who is across the pond in jolly old England for a few weeks, the most wonderful Mother's Day. I love you.

And to all of the Mother's who stop in here each day to read my words, and share your stories, you are all amazing. Happy Mother's Day!

  14. This is a wonderful post, thank you! I would like so much to be in the present myself. I succeed sometimes, very rarely though. It feels so good when I can do it. But most of the time, I fail. And I feel sad and guilty. Is it the same for you? Happy Mother's Day.

    1. You are most welcome, I am glad you enjoyed it.

I try not to feel sad or guilty when things aren't going the way I expected, I step back, take a breath, and pull myself back into the present moment. There are days when I have to remind myself many times to be here, now, and other days, it just seems I am in a groove and soaking up each and every second. It ebbs and flows, based on so many things. I think the important thing is to recognize you are not being present, once you do that you can work to find the things that bring you back in the moment. No sadness, no guilt, be kind to yourself, and know that each time you step into the moment it makes it easier to step into the next one.

Hang in there. A Happy Mother's Day to you too.

    2. Thank you so much for your answer, I really appreciate it. I will continue to try to enjoy the present as much as possible, even if it could be challenging sometimes. With practice, it will become easier.
