Following the Trail

The beach has been absolutely wonderful, and both Reece and I have been enjoying our time by the ocean, but the woods were calling us yesterday. So we left the beach behind for a bit and hit the trails at Myrtle Beach State Park.

Reece was on the hunt for new and exciting nature treasures, of which he found quite a few, and I was looking to connect to a place a little different than home. We both found what we were looking for and more, including a pileated woodpecker sighting.

This maritime forest was beautiful, and the most exciting part was coming to the end of the trail and walking onto the beach. If only all wooded trails ended at the ocean. At the ocean we walked, searched for more shells and enjoyed a little picnic before returning to the forest for our walk back to the car.

As we walked back, hand in hand, there was a sense of calm and a feeling of deep connection with my little man. The woods are a special place for us, and although this is a different place we both felt at home and just might head back for another walk before we head home next week.

  2. How amazing! Before reading your words, I was thinking, looking at the pictures, how exciting it must have been for R to find all these things that are so different from home... happy to read I was right!

We got 10 cm today... i.e. You're not missing much back home! :-)

    1. It was a pretty fun walk listening to his exclamations every time he found something new. Yikes, I was so hoping it would all be gone by the time we returned...I guess not :(

    2. Not unless something major happens. I don't know about your place, but no amount of sun would melt the almost 8 ft in front of my house in 2 weeks. :-(

    3. Haha! I just called home and yeah, it looks like I will be returning to snow. Oh well, it won't be long now.

    1. Thanks, but we don't live here, just visiting. We are thoroughly enjoying our time here and are not looking forward to heading home, which is still covered in a ton of snow.

  8. What a great park. It reminds me of Cumberland Island State Park in Georgia. One of my favorite places. I am so glad you all are enjoying the warm temperatures and sunny skies.

  9. I was saying to myself as I scrolled through the pictures that this looks a lot like your home but slightly different. You are so often at the beach (on the lake) or in your woods. If I ever get to the East Coast with lots of time on my hands I will have to make a point of going here!

    1. You should definitely put it on your list of places to visit, you guys would love it.

And yes, kinda like home, but different. So many different nature treasures, bird calls and things to see. So much fun for both Reece and I.

    1. We did do this one last year, and I think enjoyed it as much or even more this year. It was a totally different walk this year with a little man who is a year older. He was looking at things with totally different eyes. It was pretty awesome to see the difference.
