A Space for Reece

As I mentioned yesterday, crafting has become a larger part of our life over the last few years, and the main reason is Reece. He loves creating.
Justin, as an artist, has an unbelievable ability to take a piece of rotting wood from the forest floor and create something so beautiful, I am continually amazed. I think Reece might get his artistic, creative side from Justin, well, maybe a little bit from me too. Wherever it comes from, Justin and I are eager to support Reece’s creative side.
We live in small home, and recently did some room shuffling to make use of as much space as possible. This little shuffled created a large room for Reece which we decided to separate a little bit with a wall. The reason for the separation was to create a bedroom and a play/craft/home school room for Reece. I wanted to create a space where we could play and create that didn’t interfere with his sleeping space, and this was the best way to do it.
In the play/craft/home school room we knew we wanted some kind of desk, an area to sit back and play and some shelves for organization. Take a peek at what we came up with...

I can’t tell you how much Reece loves his space. We only got his desk up last week, the same day Justin finished my craft table and since then we can’t get Reece out of his space and away from his “craft” table. He started calling it his “craft” table when we told him about my space and craft table. I guess he decided his desk was a place for him to create and that is exactly what he has been doing. Play dough, drawing, painting, building with blocks...you name it, he has been doing it at his craft table.

Justin and I hope this space offers Reece as much inspiration as our spaces offer us and we look forward to seeing what he creates in his space.

    1. Thanks, he really loves it. The Dot Markers, I picked them up at Scholar's Choice. I have seen them at Michaels as well. And I am sure you could find them online.

  4. This is wonderful! What a beautiful room! My three-year-old would love to have his craft supplies accessible, but at least under baby brother is a little older, we have to keep them out of kids' reach.

    1. Thanks. Reece loves having everything within reach, makes creating a possibility at any time. I can completely understand not having them out with a younger sibling, that would not be easy keeping little fingers away from the supplies.

  9. What a great space for him to create. Love the tree branches as support (and decoration) for the table. I recognize some Ikea items (our favorite store). Is the red drawer unit from there too? Now you'll have to get a string and some clips to display all of his artwork. A friend of mine bought some special frames that are sort of 'revolving' - they're deep enough to hold about 20 pieces of paper and the top one is visible. It's really a good idea since with my 4 kids, the amount of artwork can be come unmanageable.

    1. Thanks Ellen. The tree branch supports are all my husband, I can't take credit for that. Yes, the book cases and the red drawers are from IKEA...we love it there too!

And yes, I am trying to figure out how best to create a spot on the wall that he can showcase his work, right now he uses the fridge :) I was thinking about the string and clips or maybe a tact board. I will post pics when we decide for sure. I do like the frame idea too.

  10. What a special space for a little boy to play and work at! I love that he started calling it his craft space, and love the use of wood block/play house for imaginative play as well!

    1. I do love that he calls it his craft space too, warms my heart every time he says it. My husband actually made the "tree house" for Reece for Christmas. I picked him up some little gnomes for it and he loves to play with it. I went into his room one day and he had his silk play scarves on the floor as grass and water with the tree house on top and the gnomes laying in the grass, swimming and playing in the tree house, it was totally awesome!

      Thanks for stopping by.
