{On Mothering}

Join me this week, as we head into Mother's Day, for a little series called {On Mothering}.
I have asked four bloggers, and mothers, to share a little something from their mothering experience.
The only information I gave them was the title of the series, the rest I left up to them.

Today, a piece I originally wrote for Mind, Body, Love, an eBook for mothers written by mothers,
edited by Kathryn Pagano and Meryl Carver Allmond
The eBook was released last May, for Mother's Day, and is still available for download here.

The Fabric of Motherhood

A single thread begins the journey.
It weaves itself with others,
slowly,
patiently,
forming.
Tangles, knots, small tears are inevitable,
but each makes the fabric stronger,
more resilient.
Each day begins anew finding
joy and magic,
worry and sorrow,
guilt and forgiveness.
No emotion is off limits,
no thread allowed to hide.
There is beauty in the process,
not always seen until the end.
The final fabric, fully weaved,
shaped.
It is strong.
It is powerful.
It is inspiration.
Every thread connected,
with love and joy.
All of the highs, lows,
good times and bad,
weaved together with love into
the beautiful fabric of motherhood.

  1. Oh Kim this is just beautiful and so very very true, I love the analogy of tangles, knots and tears, they happen in parenting and in making but somehow have less emotional weight when it's knitting!

  5. "No emotion is off limits, no thread allowed to hide." I think this is my favorite line and so important for me to remember, that the whole experience is valid and honest and vulnerable, and that is just as it should be.

    1. YES!!! This is it, the whole thing is our experience, not just the good stuff. All of it makes us the mothers we are, and choose to be. And it is all valid, it is all truth.

      Thank you my friend. xo

  9. I love this, Kim. This is a great reminder to me since lately I feel more like a distant manager than a mother. I need to get back in the groove!
