Sunflowers

There are many things that make my heart happy, one of them is spending time in the garden with Reece. Yesterday we worked together to plant a sunflower house. As we planted we chatted about the seeds, who likes to eat the seeds and how we could protect them. Eventually, talk turned to the time in the future when we can sit in the sunflower house reading books and enjoying a snack together. It made us both smile.

For now though, we tend and nurture, and watch them grow, grow and grow some more.

  1. Sunflowers, such happy flowers don't you think? We have a field planted with seeds and I am hoping they make it, it has been raining here on and off for days.

  9. What a beautiful idea, Reece seems so concentrated while sowing, that's beautiful! I'd love to grow some sunflowers, but not one of those we sown last year did grow. We might try again...

    1. Thank you. He really enjoyed planting this garden, more so than his other one. I think the anticipation of what it will be is exciting for him. Do try again, it will be worth it if they grow :)

  10. Oh this is so exciting!! I cannot wait to see how pretty it looks all filled in. We wanted to build one this year, but ran out of usable growing space & the deer eat them in a heartbeat if we plant them outside the garden. I will have to live vicariously through you :)

    1. It is! Ah, yes, the deer. Our yard is completely fenced in so they don't usually pose a problem. In the 17 years we have been here we have only had two get into the yard and they are usually so terrified they just want to get out :) Our problem is the red squirrels...here's hoping we have out smarted them.

    1. Thank you! That is too bad, hopefully you will try again. At the moment, even with protection with chicken wire, the squirrels have managed to dig out a few seeds. I will be out there today replacing them :)
