Ten Things

One
It snowed yesterday, yup. I love winter, but I am ready for spring. It looks like she is set to join us next week, and you can be sure I will be cheering her on. Bring it on spring!

Two
Purging feels good. I spent Saturday with a friend clearing out my shed. It is a shed I haven't used in a very long time, but I need some storage space so it was time. It took us a good part of the day, but it is cleared out, most of the contents were tossed, and what is left is a clear space in which to store all my gardening tools, our bikes and other outdoor toys. It feels good to have it done, and feels even better to have a spot for my outdoor stuff.

Three
We are nearing the end of our homeschooling year, only three weeks of language arts to go, and then a few weeks of review. After that a little break before we jump into some summer learning. I am so proud of my little man and his little friend that joins us to homeschool, they have done incredibly well this year, and it is such a joy to be a part of this journey with them.

Four
My knitting needles are clicking away...a pair of fingerless mitts is my mindless knit, the one I can do when the kids are knitting or during main lesson as they work away, and the Settler Shawl is my need to focus knit that I work on when the little man is tucked in for the night.

Five
Before the snow feel yesterday, I walked around the yard. Everywhere little bits of spring are popping through the earth...tulips, crocus, poppies, motherwort, comfrey, nettles, chives, mint and more. I love this time of year in the garden, watching as it slowly comes to life.

Six
Many of you have asked how Reece is doing as we move through the transition of the last few months. Honestly, he is thriving. The changes have not effected him as I thought they would, I think I was preparing myself for the worst, and he is moving through this transition with maturity and grace. It has been a joy to witness, and reminds me yet again that our connection is strong and can withstand anything.

Seven
Reece is playing baseball this summer in our little community league, and he is so excited. I have avoided extracurricular activities for him up to this point instead focusing on lots of time for free play, exploring in nature, and time together. But now he has shown an interest, and the time is right to try something new. I am just as excited about this, and can't wait to watch him play.

Eight
I am reading You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero. I love picking up books like this one every once in a while, they kinda give me a little jolt and inspire me to reach for more.

Nine
Tea. I love tea, nothing too fancy, a simple decaf green tea or a herbal blend is perfect. I drink it straight up, no milk, and no sugar, just the tea. Throughout the day a cup of tea is never too far out of reach.

Ten
I have been putting myself out there, reconnecting with old friends, and meeting new ones. That's a big step for this introverted homebody, but it feels good and it has brought a lot of joy into my life.

So, my friends, how are you? What is going on in your world?

  1. So glad Reece is handling everything brilliantly, often children surprise us and show us the way handling difficult events. I'm really looking forward to seeing Spring coming to your patch and watching your garden awaken properly. There's lots of gardening going on round here at the moment. I'm trying to dig out some more veggie beds and it's taking ages! But I'm really enjoying it and it's very satisfying work. I need to have a purge on a shed here too, to make room for some wood storage. I've been doing lots of tree chopping here as well as digging - something that's been neglected for far too long, and we had masses of surprisingly big wild cherries crowding each other and other trees and some horrible evergreens hogging far too much light. So much to do out there!

    1. He surprises me every day Sally :) I can't wait for spring to find us here, I am itching to get out there and do some work, but with the snow we keep getting I can't do that. This week though, I hope.

Always so much to do out in the garden. Sounds like you have lots of great plans, and I can't wait to see how your garden grows this summer.

  2. what a wonderful list of 10 :-)
I know it is possibly a lot to ask, but would you consider writing a little about your homeschooling? We are just beginning our journey (the kid is just 5) but its so lovely to hear of other peoples rhythms and ideas xxx

    1. Thanks Aimee!

I can work on putting something together. I am planning a post once we finish up our year, just so I have something written in this space about it. I love hearing how other people do it too, so much fun!

  3. I have been waiting for Autumn like you have been waiting for Spring, Kim. Now, it's finally arrived and so today was devoted to planting out seedlings in my main garden bed. They are all safely tucked into the soil now so I hope fresh veggies and pretty flowers will grow happily through the season. I loved reading your list of ten!

  8. I hope Spring hurries up in your area, too. Right now I'm longing for warmer weather and sunshine myself! I'm glad to hear Reece is adjusting so well. Children adapt so well, I know ours surprised me many times when I was worried and fretted over things. I'm sure a lot has to do with the close relationship you and Reece have. :-)

Thank you. We have a pretty special bond, and I have no doubt that it has helped both of us move through the last few months.

  9. What a great post! We love winter too but are beyond ready for spring! The snow last week was lovely and the girls had the best time in it but now we are hearing that some of the farmers near us are scared that they may loose their apple and peach crops this year due to these cold snaps (or at the very least have a not-so-great season). With our less than normal winter I've been worried about the reprecussions for awhile now!

I, too, am so proud of my girls and how beautifully they have done with their lessons this year. I am feeling so ready to be done with lessons and move into our summer rhythm (even though spring is barely here)....

When you said how much you are grooving on tea lately it made me think of this new company beginning by the wife of one of my childhood neighbors. It's called The Virginia Tea Company and I saw on Facebook that they are looking for tea tasters! I can email you the info if you cannot see the Facebook page since you're not on Facebook.

Have wonderful week, dear friend! xo

    1. Thanks Shel. Spring has found us finally, and gosh it feels good. The sun peeked out quite a bit today, and by Sunday we will hit 19 degrees!!! I can't wait!

Summer rhythm here we come. Do you guys do any summer learning? Would love to know what you do, and how much? Trying to find the right balance for us.

That tea company looks amazing, I might have to try a few of their blends. Thanks for sharing.

  10. love your ten things! it blows me away that so many of you are getting snow when it's full on spring here... so wild watching each season turn in all of the different areas. i love your photos of green poking up through the grey/brown earth. so beautiful. i like my tea straight up too :) i used to put a ton of honey in it each time but after doing a sugar cleanse a couple years ago, i just never went back.

  15. I love purging ... probably a bit too much. I'm always attracted to minimalist style ... at the same time I love little frames and cozy blankets hanging over chairs, and window sills full of pinecones and pieces of bark haha.
That book sounds fun - it's nice to be reminded sometimes to just live life with intention and to love ourselves

    1. Me too, and when I get on a roll, watch out. I am the same with the minimalist style. It appeals to me, but I can't figure out how to make it work with all the crafting we do around here :)
