Choices

"I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become."
~ Carl Jung ~

It really is that simple. And yes, life can be that simple, or it can be complicated, that's a choice you make. We make a choice every single morning when we wake up, open our eyes and plant our feet on the earth. We can choose to be present and mindful, we can choose to notice the small, mundane moments that make up our day, we can choose to be happy and content with what we have, and we can choose to be grateful for the abundance our life gifts us. Every single day you have a choice about how you will greet your life. Will you be all in, or will you sit back and let life happen around you? Things happen to us every day, good things and not so good things, but we are not those things. Let me repeat that, we are not the things that happen to us. We are the choices we make. We get to choose...yes, you get to choose. If I have learned anything over the last few months it is this, there is always a choice, always, and you, my friends, get to make it. What will you choose today?

  2. All in all the way! Today I choose soup from home for lunch (part of the plan to save up for a tent), to enjoy looking at the sunshine and to get stuck in to my work so I can be done to leave on time and get home to my family- it's a good day :)

  4. Wise words, Kim. One of the most important things I hope my children will learn is that they have choices and that all choices carry consequences, whether good or bad. It's very important to live one's life with purpose and intention.

  7. I chose to go outside and soak up the first blue sky this year and the first in months. I have been patiently waiting and boy was it worth the wait. My smile was a mile wide.

Thank you for this post, just wonderful.

  8. I am choosing to be present, be happy for the gifts I do have, and to just roll with the punches that come from outside sources out of my control. This life can be so hard, but I'm still smiling and I hope you are too my friend!

  10. It would have to be positivity! Some days it might be hard to choose happiness but I do find it difficult to understand why staying positive is something people find hard. When you look at it as a choice between being positive or negative about life it does seem crazy that people can't hold on to the positive. And I'm very happy that you're so good with your choices!

    1. Oh yes, Sally, choosing to be positive seems like an easy choice. As Matt said above, looking at the bright side. It works, and often leads to a little bit of happiness too.

      Thank you, my friend. xo

    2. I often wonder about this. I was not always such a glass half full type, but, after years of focusing on the positive people (and things) in my life most of the negative/toxic people/things have been replaced with positive/productive things...was it luck, my choices, or something in my DNA? Maybe a bit of everything.
What a positive topic to debate (forgive the pun) :)

    3. I think it was your choices Matt, definitely. I think when we bring more positivity into our lives, by choice, the negativity slowly gets weeded out, and more positivity flows in.

  14. true and yet I forget it all the time. I think I struggle with what I want to happen (have the kids live close to me) and what really happens (they live far from me). I can choose to wallow or I can choose to focus on the positive, they are happy and healthy!!! Oh the struggle though.

  21. What a wonderful quote. I remember reading it long ago, thank you for reminding me. What do I choose in this moment, to be grateful for life and all its diversity and excitement. Could I do with a bit less excitement sometimes, sure... but never at the cost of having no excitemnt at all. :-)
