Yesterday we had the amazing opportunity to spend the day with some friends on their farm. We joined six other mamas and their children for a tour of the farm, saying good morning to the ducks, feeding the sheep, milking a goat and watching the pigs devour their breakfast. The kids had a great time and we moms did too.
Once the farm chores were done we were welcomed into Katie's home for a day of wool fun. We washed wool, we carded it, we dyed it and we tried spinning it. We are all newbies trying things out for the first time, we had some successes and some...oh we need to work on this a little more. Spinning is not as easy as it looks.
The kids played, the moms chatted, we played with wool, we enjoyed a pot luck lunch and we shared time together. It was a perfect day.
Thanks Katie!
What an enjoyable and educational experience :) Looks like such fun!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun, hope to do it again soon!
Deletewhat a fun day! i can see you with sheep someday. is livestock allowed in your area?
ReplyDeleteIt was Lisa. I am thinking about sheep, just two. Not next year, but maybe 2014. Still have to convince Justin :)
DeleteThat looks like such a fun day!!! I can't believe how big Reece is getting :)
ReplyDeleteIt was! And I know, I keep telling him to stop growing :)
DeleteSounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteWhat a wonderful day...like a little slice of heaven. How did Reece like the spinning? The experienced spinners do make it look so easy.
ReplyDeletePerfect way to describe it Melissa. Reece loved it. And yes they do make it look easy.
Deleteany day that plays with wool is a perfect day to me!! Wish I was there :)
ReplyDeleteMe too, how awesome would that be :)
Deletewhat fun! spinning is a bit tricky, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt is. I guess I will have to get a wheel so I can practice :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful day! I have a drop spindle I can't wait to figure out...I'm going to take some time while my dh is home and get things moving.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day Mackenzie. There were some drop spindles there, but no one knew how to use them. We were using a book to help guide us, but still had a hard time. I think it would be better to have someone show us how to use it. Maybe next time... Good luck with yours, can't wait to hear about when you have time to give it a go.
DeleteOh! And Jenny absolutely lives in her pink version of hat ribbed hat! She seriously sleeps in it. ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds lovely Kim. My oldest son is completely enchanted with spinning. There is a woman who spins at our local farmer's market and he sits for hours watching her. Looks like Reece had a fabulous time. Did you get to keep some of the wool to bring home?
ReplyDeleteIt was Jennifer. And yes, he had a great time and we brought home whatever we carded. Didn't get enough spun to bring home.
DeleteThis looks amazing. What a special place! I'm thinking of getting ducks next year, so these photos might push me over the edge!
ReplyDeleteYes, a very special place. We are too!! Actually we almost got four ducks when we got our chickens, but decided it might be best to stick with one to start.
DeleteWhat an experience! And so educational for Reece! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty awesome!
DeleteIt is pretty great!
ReplyDeleteTotally up my alley! Talk about seeing the entire process. Sensory experience at it's best!
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing, for both of us.
DeleteWow! What a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteWhat a beautiful day. When are you getting the sheep? xxoo
ReplyDeleteHaha, you know me too well Julie. I would like two sheep, thinking 2014. Next year is bees and maybe a rabbit or two :)
DeleteThat looks like such a fun adventure. So very cool for you and Reece both. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day, Reece loved it and so did I!
