Our Weekend

This weekend was time in the garden...raking, turning the soil over and getting my hands dirty, there was laundry hanging on the line and a carefree little man chasing chickens around the yard. The sun was shining and it actually felt like spring. By Saturday night my hands had blisters and my back was aching, but it was so worth it.

Sunday morning greeted us with a beautiful, unexpected sunrise, it was suppose to be raining. We enjoyed pancakes topped with our maple syrup and then, while my two men played, I headed out to meet some friends for a little mama time and a cup of tea. We finished off the weekend with a chickpea curry for dinner and then a quiet night, with an early bedtime.

How was your weekend?

"A photo of my little man, once a week, every week, in 2014"

More time in the woods this week Reece, our favourite place to be. You had so much fun exploring this new to you trail and found the most pleasure playing among the cedar trees.

{This Moment}

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see. Inspired by Soulemama.

Twig Study

Inspired by this, Reece and I collected a few branches from the backyard two weeks ago to do a little twig study. When we first moved into our home, almost 17 years ago, we had a forsythia bush and I would always bring in twigs to force at this time of the year. So happy to be reminded of this wonderful project by Dawn.

The three of us placed bets on which branch would leaf out first, and I won! I said lilac, Justin laid his bets on birch and Reece voted for the willow. So far the lilac is leafing out and sharing its beautiful spring green colour with us, and the willow is not far behind. The birch is a little slower. We also have some apple twigs in the jar, and I think it will be the next to leaf out.

It has been a fun little experiment, and added a little bit of spring magic to our days.

Heading to the Woods

A weekend doesn't usually pass without us spending some time in the woods. Last week we headed just a little bit south and found spring bursting forth from the earth. This week we stuck a little closer to home, and well, as you can see, winter is still hanging on. It is amazing what a 20 minute drive can do around here.

Believe it or not, we have not visited this lovely little spot in years, as in 10, maybe 12 years. Crazy, right? I am not sure why we stopped, but I am so glad we decided to head there on Sunday. The trail meanders beside a creek, in and out of meadow and forest, over bridges and back around to where we started. It was a  beautiful day, although there is a ton of snow, it was very mild. We traded our winter boots in for our rain boots, left the snow pants at home and enjoyed a lovely afternoon on the trail.

You can bet we will be heading back again, each season will be a surprise for us as we take time to explore this trail a little more this year.
