Butterflies

I love day trips, really love them, and today I packed up Reece and his little homeschool friend and we headed to Niagara Falls for the day. We walked the falls, taking in the view from many different spots, and getting a little wet as the wind changed direction and blew the mist to shower down over us. We laughed at our luck, and then realized just how refreshing it was on a hot summer morning.

After visiting the falls we enjoyed a little lunch and then hit the spot we came to see...The Butterfly Conservatory. I really enjoy our visits to this place, and today was no exception. We were in awe as we walked inside and had the opportunity to get up and close and personal with so many beautiful butterflies. It truly is a magical place, and even though we have visited three times over the years, it never gets old. There is just something so very special about being in the presence of such elegant and beautiful creatures. There was a lot of stopping and observing as we made our way through the conservatory, and I loved watching as Reece and his friend discover each and every butterfly.

We stayed as long as we could, and then said a final farewell to the butterflies and began our trek home. Day trips can be long, and they are always just a little tiring, but they are also perfect in so many ways, and I am already busy planning the next one.

    1. We are about 2.5 hours away, on the other side of Toronto. A bit of a trek, but not too far for a day trip. So cool that you are that close.

  5. wow!! what an incredible view. we have kind of a hard time with day trips where we live. some things are really close but everything else is really far. so we rarely make day trips unless it's to the beach or river. yours looks incredible! what a wonderful summer treat!

  6. Now that is one of the few places you have featured here that I have actually been too! There is something rather special about seeing that volume of water all in one place, it is awe inspiring isn't it! The butterfly conservatory sounds wonderful, worth the long drive.

    2. My dad has a cousin who lives in Ottawa, he moved from the UK when his children were young. Whilst I have loads of cousins they are all much younger than me but he had a daughter who was my age and we loved (and still love) each other's company. I stayed with them for a week way back in 1986, I can still remember so much about that trip, I loved Canada and could totally understand why he would want to settle there. Interestingly all his children have now moved back to the UK!

    3. Very cool. If you ever visit him, do let me know, we are not far from Ottawa, about 3 hours. I would make the drive to meet up :)

    1. Thanks Darcel. It is peaceful, in a loud and crazy kind of way.....always lots of people around, and it is quite noisy, but if you can tune that out, you can find the peace and calm.

Can't wait to see what you guys get up to on your day trip :)

    1. It is an awesome place to visit, both the falls and the butterflies. I love watching Reece these days, he is growing and changing so much, pushing and challenging boundaries, and sharing his love with lots of hugs and kisses. These days are long and exhausting, but also so full of love and joy.

  9. Beautiful! I would dearly love to see Niagara Falls.

One of my favorite places is the butterfly house at the Melbourne Zoo - particularly on a cold winters day! It's kept lovely and warm for the butterflies which are constantly moving about and landing on visitors. The colours are simply amazing.
