It Just Feels Right

Lately I have been meeting a lot of new people, people who seem to understand our life and why we choose to live the way we do. And that feels really great. It is so wonderful to find like minded people who get you.

Last week someone I am just getting to know asked me why we have chosen to live the life we are leading. I didn't want to assume anything so I asked exactly what she was referring to. It was a little bit of everything...the way we raise Reece, the homeschooling, the chickens, growing our own food, cooking from scratch, putting food up, the handmade things we are always making, life in the slow lane, the nature connection, and so on.

I could tell these questions were coming from a place of interest, and I did not feel the need to defend our choices as I often do when faced with this question. Usually I would start to explain our reasons for it all, my passion would take hold and there would be no stopping me. But something inside me didn't quite feel like going there on this day, I felt a subtle twinge telling me to keep it simple. So I did.

I answered, "It just feels right."

  2. Isn't it funny when someone asks a personal question, we try to discern where they are coming from. I have always been a SAHM and fielding the question of "why" was challenging depending on who asked.

    1. It is funny, and I always have to try and figure out if they are truly interested or just looking for me to defend our lifestyle. It can sometimes be a little tricky.

  6. Those questions can be hard coming from certain people and a breath of fresh air coming from others - great response!

  9. that it does! It's the perfect answer. I found myself answering a similar way when asked recently why we homeschool.

    1. Some will find this answer a hard one to understand because a lot don't listen to their gut, they ignore it and do what they think they are suppose to do. I just can't do that.

  10. I have to giggle. After reading your second paragraph, I blurted out "because it just feels right". Then I read your last line. :) So happy for you to be meeting some many like-minded people. I'm sure it makes the journey just a bit better.

  11. 'It just feels right' - is the right answer :)

I totally can relate to this post, and funnily enough, I found this answer when once I was too tired to defend my choices. It's the best and truest response :) Who can argue with that, right?

    1. No one, that is what makes it such a great answer. It also releases me from having to defend myself.

  12. PERFECT answer!! There is absolutely no reason to defend yourself. So many people have the tendency to judge others who aren't "the same" or who lead different lifesytles. You are doing a fabulous job Mama!

  13. I love that answer. I sometimes feel the same way about going into why we chose Waldorf Education. There are so many things I love about it and why it is right for our family, but it can all be summed up with, "It just fees right". Thank you, again, for sharing. Have a lovely weekend.

  14. That's perfect. I'm so glad you are meeting other kindred spirits on your path. It can feel lonely until you get over the hump of forming community, but once your there, it's bliss-)

  15. Oh I love this. We have been in our community for under a year, and still haven't quite found like minded folk. I've been feeling it this past week. With our newly adopted daughter there have been so many questions from outsiders. Most are sincere in their questions- just trying to figure things out. But others are more judgmental in the comments they make. It can hurt your heart. Make you yearn for a better fit. I keep reminding myself that we have been placed here in this time to help others see a different way to life. And to learn from their perspectives as well. Deep breath...

  16. Awesome :). Every inquiry for me felt like a validation, and I have to tell you, 4 years later, the rewards of this way of living still pours out of my children. It is a wonderful thing ;), and your path Kim, is a beautiful one...

    1. Thanks so much MJ. I can see the validation part...it seems each time I get asked this question or get other questions about our lifestyle it just confirms with my heart and soul that we are on the right path.
