On The Road

Reece and I are on the road, enjoying our little adventure south to Myrtle Beach. The plan was to leave on Wednesday morning, but after hearing the forecast of a storm heading along the route we would be traveling we packed up Tuesday afternoon and hit the road.

We drove five hours on Tuesday to Cortland, New York where we stayed overnight. We awoke to grey skies, but nothing more on Wednesday morning. I was feeling confident we were ahead of the game and would be far enough south when the storm hit. My confidence was soon shattered. We hit Virginia and instead of missing the storm, drove right on through it.

I counted eight tractor trailers in the ditch. I stopped counting cars that had spun out. There were trees blocking lanes along interstate 64 making it like a maze to get through. It was a tough, stressful drive taking us a little longer than expected but we made it to our next stop and were happy to get in our hotel room, eat dinner and crash.

I am hoping our drive today is much less eventful.

  3. I am so happy the drive went all okay in spite of the weather! Good to hear you are both safe and sound, and on your way to more adventures. Well done on the snow storm driving - that would have freaked me out!

Safe driving, happy journey and speak soon.

    1. Almost was Jennifer, but the shoulders of the road were a mess, I couldn't pull over. The only way out was through it.

  9. the south does seem to have trouble staying on the road in extreme weather. we went through Arkansas during their blizzard. so many cars on the side of the road.

    1. I guess because they don't get storms like that too often. I was amazed that they just left the trucks and cars in the ditch. In Canada they would shut the road down to pull them out. At least it keeps everyone moving. I guess they pull them out once the storm if over.
