Yarn Along

With lots of down time over the holidays I did quite a bit of knitting. Every where we go people comment on Reece's cowl, so I decided to keep my hands busy knitting some up and hopefully sell a few to some friends. If they don't sell, no worries, I will put them aside for Christmas next year, my nieces and nephew will love them.

I was gifted quite a few books for Christmas and have been diving into them. I enjoyed giving this one a reread. I am loving and learning so much from this one, and can't believe I didn't find this one sooner.

My little man added to his book collection this Christmas as well. I have been reading The Rooster's Gift to him nightly. During the day it has been Owl Moon and Shall I Knit You A Hat.

What have you been knitting and reading?

Joining in with Ginny.

  1. Love seeing all the different colors you used, they are great looking cowls. And that is a wonderful way to get a jump start on next year's gift giving if they don't sell, smart woman you are there.

  2. Really like your color selection!
My kids LOVE The Rooster's Gift. It makes them giggle beyond belief. They adore our Rooster, Goldie. He is a sweet Roo so I think that makes it all the more special to them. A great message found there as well.
Thanks for the other book links.

    1. Thanks Dawn. The Rooster's Gift is a special book, Reece just loves it and is really attached to it. I think having a rooster helps make the connection real for him.

  3. I love all your knits! Great colors - makes me smile after looking at the same yarn of my own project for so long. The boys and I read Shall I Knit You a Hat too. Such a sweet story.

    1. Thanks so much. It was nice to use some different colours to knit these up. Shall I Knit You a Hat is awesome...it was a gift from his aunt and he loves it. I had never heard of it.

    1. I look forward to seeing your throw :) And I think you would like Use Your Words MJ, it is an interesting read and provides little exercises throughout to challenge you and take your writing to the next level...not that I think you need it, I love your style.

  9. Hi. I'm a sort of new reader. I like your philosophy. It's very similar to my own. I just had to comment that I like your reading list, but why don't they make books like this for older children? I'm a stage ahead of you. My boys are 6, 9 and 11. What you will find is that great books like those you mentioned seem to dry up once children reach school age. We homeschool. I am still creating those sort of environments on a daily basis. It would be nice to have some encouragement for these ages as well. Oh well, just venting. :)

    1. Thanks Annie. I wish I had an answer for you. To be honest I have not yet looked much past my little man's stage, but your comment makes me want to start researching now. I love the books I am finding for him now, kinda sad to hear that it all changes. I will keep my eyes and ears open and if I find anything will be sure to let you know.

No worries on the venting, happy you were able to get it out :)

  15. Thanks Rosemarie. I will have to check out that book, thanks for the recommendation.

Pattern, I just started knitting :)

The ribbed ones: cast on 60 stitches, join for knitting in the round. Knit 2 purl 2 for 4 inches, cast off.

The other ones: cast on 60 stitches, join for knitting in the round. Knit 2 purl 2 for 5 rows, then knit for as long as you like and finish with 5 more rows of knit 2 purl 2.

The yarns are all chunky. I used US10/6mm needles. The green is a wool, the other ones are a wool/acrylic blend.

Hope that helps, if you need more information let me know, happy to share :)

  17. You are such a fast knitter! :) I love the cowls and it makes me really excited thinking ahead to all of the things I can knit for Izzy for next winter (I'm thinking I might have a little more needle time by then).

  20. No problem, happy to share. The one Reece wears, which is now two years old has not stretched out, so I am not sure. They will definitely get smaller if you felt them, but you could knit them a little bigger to start. Or the new little one could wear them too :)
