Determined and Persistent
We are in the midst of gaining a lovely understanding of these two words in our home.
And while it does cause us moments of frustration,
we are choosing to take a deep breath and reminding ourselves
how well these two qualities will serve him in the years to come.

yes and yes. here too!
ReplyDeleteGlad I am not alone :)
DeleteOh yes, those traits will take him far.
ReplyDeleteHang in there Kim :)
Thanks Tracey. I know they will, I just need to keep reminding myself of that :)
DeleteI agree! Whenever my children demonstrated tenacity I would think "well no one will take advantage of them when they're older". (my daughter especially!!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen!
DeleteI know how you feel, and yes, hang in there!
ReplyDeleteI will!
DeleteOh, been there and done that. However, you are correct in that they will serve him well....just later in life and not now, right? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Melissa.
DeleteWe've been working on that for the last two years! Sounds like you are handling it with grace and mindfulness as always!
ReplyDeleteI am certainly trying KC :)
Deleteyes. yes yes. to persist, i'm not a person to whom this comes naturally. deep breathing here too. and enjoying, of course!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sylvia.
Deletebeen there. sending you patience, mama!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda.
DeleteYou mean I'm not the only one? My son's teacher describes him as the "most stubborn" child she has "ever" met. My husband and I agree that his persistence and determination will make him an amazing adult - but some days we struggle to get past the day (or the moment). I do so admire the grace and calm with which you seem to approach everything - I hope you will share more here about how you work through those stalemate moments!
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone mama :) Pause, breath, think and then speak...at least that is what I try to do. It doesn't help with his determination, but it helps me stay sane in the face of it all. We try our best to work it out, making a plan that works for all of us. Sometimes it goes well, other times not so much.
DeleteLove the light in these photos Kim. Just gorgeous. We have a lot of determined and persistent in our house too. I guess that's better than unwilling and lazy?! x
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna. And yes I agree with you on that one :)
DeleteLove it! And that middle picture is pretty amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tess!
DeleteThat they will! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures, my friend! And your words are just as beautiful! xo
Thanks Shel!
DeleteWhat a wonderful perspective!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mandi!
DeleteIsn't it wonderful that ALL those parts of their personalities can be strengths, even the ones that challenge us!
ReplyDeleteYES!! I just need to keep reminding myself :)
DeleteBeautiful pics...and qualities...but often not easy for a mama :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristen :)
Deletein breath - out breath. repeat.
ReplyDeleteYES!
DeleteYes, they will serve him well. It is a great challenge to parent the determined and persistent, but fun and rewarding to find ways to meet these qualities and give him (or in my case, her) ways to grow and strengthen them. Enjoy:-)
ReplyDelete-Karen
Oh yes, so fun and very rewarding. It isn't easy, but when I am able to meet him head on in the moment of determination and persistence and be creative to find solutions it does feel amazing...like we have connected on a whole different level. Both of us growing at the same time.
DeleteGood reminder! :)
