Things I Want to Remember

Moments from this weekend that I want to remember:

~ the quiet, early morning stillness of my garden as the sun rose

~ harvesting food from the garden to put by, offering gratitude with each bean, snow pea and calendula flower picked

~ canning food in my little kitchen, fans going, as the summer temperature reached 40 degrees Celcius

~ harvesting garlic in that same heat

~ the connection I feel to this land we call home

~ the pantry shelves slowly filling up, ready to feed us all winter long

~ enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner on the back deck

~ time alone, with Justin, while Reece visited with my parents

~ the beautiful connection my little man has with my parents

~ the ending of a good book, and the beginning of a new one

~ casting off, and casting on

~ letting bedtime pass by unnoticed because he was having so much fun with his dad

~ the way he skipped out of the wild raspberry bushes, all smiles and so full of joy

~ the first zinnia

~ fresh flowers from the garden, brought in to bring a little happy into our home

~ quality time at home, moving slowly and simply through our days

~ this life, the one we dreamed of, no longer a dream, but a reality

It was a good weekend around these parts, nothing special really, yet it felt so very special. A kind of weekend you want to hold on to, to remember.

What do you want to remember about this weekend?

  1. Wow Kim, I thought that where you live you didn't get so hot in the summer! Here eiter is unbearably hot, and every move seems like a great effort. So we spent our weekend between swimming pool and sofa with air conditioning!

    1. It does, but only occasionally. We don't have long stretches of this kind of heat, just a few days spattered here and there. This morning is much cooler, and the day looks to be quite lovely.

That sounds like a great way to spend the weekend. Hope you have a lovely week my friend. xo

This is a great list of summer memories.
I want to remember the sound of the ocean, little girl squeals, baby smiles and baby dimples!

  3. What a beautiful list of worthwhile memories... OH! Time alone... isn't it just so luxurious? My hubby and I usually don't need much of it, but the time we get is so special.

You guys had a VERY different week-end than us (rain and cold). What I want to remember this week-end? A Saturday filled with friends in our home, sharing a meal, kids playing everywhere and adults getting to know each other, sharing about life.

Wishing you a wonderful week. xox

    1. Thanks Yanic. Yes, it is lovely, and it has been awhile since Justin and I had time alone. We did a few errands, and stopped for tea. It was absolutely lovely.

Sorry about the rain and cold, it is anything but cold here. Sounds like a lovely day with friends. I love those kind of days.

Hope you have a lovely week too. xo

  6. It sounds perfect in the everyday ordinary sort of perfect, all moments to treasure, especially that you have made a dream a reality. So few people can say that they have done that, it's truly special.

    1. Yes, exactly Carie, an ordinary sort of perfect, and honestly I like ordinary :)

We feel very fortunate to be living our dream, and it feels good to be where we are.

  8. Sounds like your weekend was filled to the brim with good things. We spent a lot of time outside this weekend and I want to remember how good the sun feels - even if it was really, really hot. ;-) It'll be lots cooler before we know it and then I'll miss those warm days...

    1. It was Anke, and I am still riding the high of it. I am doing a lot of that right now too, appreciating the sun and her warmth, because it won't be long before I have to bundle up again to head outside.

  11. Gorgeous! Beautiful flowers and beautiful words!! My weekend was a long, sweaty, cross-country drive in a black car with no a/c and four tired, grumpy travel companions. It will certainly be memorable for that alone. :)

    1. Thanks Andrea! Hehe, that must have been one long, and hot drive. But it did come at the end of an epic vacation, right? Hope you are settling in back at home okay.

  12. I want to remember reaching 57 pounds of homegrown tomatoes harvested. Pulling up forgotten potatoes while planting beans, making up in the early morning to see a hawk on my chicken coop.

    1. Wow, that is awesome KC! I haven't even started to harvest tomatoes yet. A hawk at your chicken coop, yikes! We have had a few sitting in the trees above our chicken run, and even had one swoop down not realizing there was a fenced in roof. He got a little shock when he hit it :)

  13. What a great list. It does sound like you had a wonderful weekend.
This past weekend was my 35th birthday and my wife decided to throw me a party. I want to remember that feeling of friend after friend showing up...I'm very fortunate to have such a great circle of friends.
It was also an 80's themed party, where we all dressed up in our 80's clothing...another great visual to remember. Haha

Happy birthday to you. Sounds like a great way to celebrate. Revisiting the 80s, eh? Not sure I want to go back there again. Hope you guys had a blast.

  14. Beautiful pictures. And things to remember. We, too, let bedtime slide by unnoticed this weekend with cool, cloudy evenings that my daughter was just having too much fun enjoying. And I was too busy relaxing on the deck!

  15. "letting bedtime pass unnoticed" We are getting quite good at that this summer, as we are finally old enough and flexible enough to manage it.

Thank you for sharing all of these gratitudes with us :)

  18. Sounds perfect in so many ways. Our weekend was a bit different to normal, we had a trip up to London for a special party, a 50th anniversary party for Harry's Aunt and Uncle. London is never my favourite place to be, but good to catch up with family and especially to be part of such a happy celebration.

    1. That sounds wonderful Sally, 50th anniversary, wow! I think you view London like I view Toronto, a great place to visit for the day, but it feels so good to head back home :) I do have to admit though, to really enjoying the few visits I have made to London.
