Saturday morning found me making my way through the woods with field guides and kiddos, tracking animals. It was another Morning on the Homestead day, and we had a a great time. The woods were full of prints....coyote, deer, rabbit, and shrew tracks were discussed, identified, and followed before heading back for a snack and to warm up. Then it was back outside to make snow candles, and while they set, snow sculptures. By the end of the morning the kiddos were tired, and happy, and I was feeling happy and content.
I am loving these Morning on the Homestead workshops, and have some fun ideas planned for the spring session. Can't wait to share them with you.
Snow is great to prints isn't it, as is soft earth (which we have lots of) it's wonderful how you only have to look for prints once with children and then they are looking for them every time we go out.
ReplyDeleteI love your snow candles we are hoping to make earth candles next week too! Did the wax stay soft enough when you took it outside or did you melt it outside?
It is so much fun tracking in the snow, and so much easier too. Great for little ones who haven' done it before. And yes, once is all it takes :)
DeleteThanks, I love the snow candles. One year for Candlemas we didn't have snow and we made earth candles, those are lovely too. I melted the wax inside, and only brought it out when we were ready to pour it into the snow. It worked perfectly.

You will love it Tracey. You know you can make earth candles too, just dig a hole in the dirt and pour in your wax, those are fun too!

ReplyDeleteWell, we did on Saturday, but it has warmed up and rained. We actually have some grass peeking through the snow. My little man was running around outside this afternoon with no coat...he thought it was awesome.
DeleteI remember your snow candles! We got lots of snow today and attempted to make molasses snow candy from the Christmas Little House book we read recently. It didn't turn out so well, but I researched it and we'll give it another shot tomorrow!

ReplyDeleteIt was glorious, but a week of spring like temperatures has left us with green grass, if you can believe it. It has been nice though to see the sun, and feel her warmth.
