We woke Tuesday to a gift...snow! Outside our windows was a world covered in white waiting peacefully to greet us. It was the first real snow of the season, and we headed out right away to take it all in. There is something so very peaceful and calming about the earth when it is covered in a fresh blanket of snow. As I stepped out the front door I wanted to tip toe so I didn't disturb the earth as it prepares for its winter rest. The air was still, and quietly singing from a tree was a chickadee or two. We walked in wonder, breathing deep, and expressing our awe at the beauty around us. The sun shone, creating snow sparkles across the ground, and around us, big fluffy flakes continued to fall. This time of year is hard for some, the diminishing light, the cold, but for me that darkness provides a time to tune in more deeply to who I am and where I am going, it allows space for evenings by the fire, reading and knitting, my little man sleeping soundly in the next room, it creates the perfect backdrop for living simply and mindfully, a way of life I try to embody all year round, but during the darkest time of the year seems much easier. As I walked slowly on Tuesday morning taking in the magic of the first snow, I breathed deeply, and when I exhaled the weight I have been carrying lifted, slightly, and in its place, a little light and joy crept back in.

wonderful! I I do LOVE your new banner!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Every time I see the start of your snow postsI am always taken aback. It is just so different to my own experience. How many months of the year do you have snow? It fascinates me!
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, I found a tutorial online showing how to make rope baskets. Guess what I'm doing this weekend? :)
Much love to you and Reece!
Thanks Leisa. The snow you see in the photos is now gone, usually the case when we get snow in November. Usually we are snow covered for part of December, January, February and part of March. Some years a little longer, some a little shorter. I love it!!!
DeleteThat is awesome, I can't wait to see your baskets. Have fun!
xo
It is absolutely beautiful ... and your new blog's banner is sublime! If you knew how I dream to come to Canada with my family one day ...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these beautiful pictures my friend.
It must have been a beautiful gift for you and your little man, for sure!
Thank you Chantall. If you ever make it here and are in the area, you will have to let me know, it would be lovely to meet in person.
DeleteIt was indeed a gift, and we enjoyed it so much.
What a wonderful sight to wake up to! Please send some our way! :) xo
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed, sadly it is all gone now. Here's hoping more comes soon. xo
DeleteThat's wonderful Kim :) I love your photos - beautiful ! x
ReplyDeleteThanks Fiona :)
Deleteyour little narnia looks so beautiful !!! Enjoy xoxo
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Erica. It was pretty awesome, while it lasted :)
DeleteOh my, what beauty! I'm trying so hard not to feel jealous, but I'm failing miserably. The temps are 5'C and rising right now. The forecast for tomorrow is 11'C. I wish we could have been there with you to walk gently and gratefully through all that fluffy snow.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same as you when the season comes. So many see winter as dark and mournful. I see it as a well deserved respite. My husband was telling me just this morning how more and more, it felt like winter was a gift to us. We work our hands to the bone 8 months a year and these 4 months of blanketed peace are nature's way of saying "rest now, you've earned it".
It was beautiful indeed Yanic, but sadly it is gone now. We hit 10 degrees today, and tomorrow are heading towards 12 degrees with lots of rain. It will be back soon though, but I am so glad we had that little gift on Tuesday.
DeleteYes, we rest when the earth rests :)
I agree! I do love winter! And snow is so beautiful! The only thing that gets me is being inactive. I need to find a way to keep moving my body. Sledding and skating are on the agenda for this winter! I think it is going to be a good one! ☺ Thanks for sharing the pics from your area!
ReplyDeleteI think you need some snowshoes my friend :) They are awesome, and make for a great workout. I bet your kiddos would love them too. Both Reece and I have a pair, and we hit the woods often with them. So much fun!
Deleteso beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Taryn.
DeleteSo beautiful, and I love that it's a part of your healing. I love your words and that you are feeling a little more lightness. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Carlin. Slowly the light is returning, and little bits of joy and happy are sneaking in, it feels good. xo
DeleteIt's all about the little bits of light and joy that add up to something big, isn't it? So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is my friend, and slowly they are adding up to something big, and it feels wonderful. Thank you.
DeleteOh I love sunlight in snow it is really special isn't it? It always lifts the heart, I am glad to hear that it has lightened your heavy load Kim.
ReplyDeleteIt is so special, like little diamonds across the snow. Always so pretty. Thank you, it was wonderful to feel that lightness, and I am trying to carry it with me each day.
DeleteOh what gorgeous pictures. How the snow washes us anew. Refreshes and brings peace. I once had a dream about waking to fresh white snow in the early dawn and seeing a wolf out my window. The next day I made the long awaited decision to leave my job to be a stay at home mom. That was 6 years ago and, of course, the best decision ever. It was such a scary and risky decision for me at the time. Something powerful was held in that dream, in that fresh white snow that awoke in me courage. I remember it so clearly even today as I look at your photos. I see so much courage in you. PS. I really love the new banner photo. It is truly picture perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, it seems to do all of those things, doesn't it? Such a gift to us. Wow, what a dream, and what a catalyst for change. That is quite the story.
DeleteAw, thanks, I am enjoying the new banner :)
I know. Your pictures just made me think of it. Funny! We've only had 2 dusting of snow here so far. I can't wait for a good one!
DeleteI hope more snow finds you, and us soon :)
DeleteYour place looks so great Kim. And with snow, it looks almost magical! I love snow myself, even if we don't have much of it in my part of the world. It reminds me my childhood and the coziness it brings. Turning inward is a gift, and this time of year is perfect for that.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie. It does feel magical, and I love waking up to such magic :) It is such a great time of year for the movement inward, to search, and find. This year more than others I am looking forward to this time.
DeleteSo beautiful and peacefull! I wish it will snow soon here!!
ReplyDeleteThank you my friend. I hope the white stuff finds you soon :)
DeleteHope you get to enjoy it again soon! xo
ReplyDeleteMe too :)
DeleteHow Beautiful!! We were just tonight about how different it is where you and where we live. We spent time on the mountain today and it was very chilly.
ReplyDeleteThanks KC! Yes, so different, the world is an amazing place.
DeleteA gift indeed and one I would love to receive here! Today, like yesterday it is 75F so I'm going to need that to dip...and soon!
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying a fun weekend.
I wish I could send you the gift of some snow Tracey. One day you will make it up here to experience it.
DeleteWe are having a wonderful weekend, thanks, hope you are too!
Oh how beautiful - I adore snow, it's like the whole world wiped clean to start again, it doesn't surprise me in the least you felt it helped you breathe out and let things go - I have a similar reaction to it myself!
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly!
DeleteYour climate seems so much like ours. We'vé had about the same amout of as you. Your place looks so beautiful in it's 'manteau blanche'. Love your new header.
ReplyDeleteHope you both are keeping well. My eldest, 11, is taking care of the woodstove this weekend so i'm sat on the sofa toasty warm like a princess sipping tea and blog reading.
Yes, I think it is Emma. Thank you, I wasn't sure about the new banner, thinking it might be a bit early for a snow covered one, but thought what the heck, and everyone seems to like it.
DeleteWe are both well, thanks, enjoying a quiet day today. I like the sounds of your day, enjoy it my friend. xo
you lucky lucky duck....I'm glad you got first snow!!
ReplyDeleteWe were lucky, not so much now, it has all melted. We have been hoping for more, but as of yet, nothing. Soon though, I hope :)
DeleteI do love the snow. There is something healing about its quietness. Most people here grumble when it falls, but I embrace it. These are dark times, but light will be returning. Shine on my friend.
ReplyDeleteYes, so healing. I am looking forward to that light, in so many ways. xo
DeleteWhat a beautiful gift, and yes the peace and quiet of snow is something very special. We are really hoping to get some this year, so far it's looking extremely unlikely but I keep reminding myself it's still early days!
ReplyDeleteIt was a short lived gift Sally, all gone, and we haven't seen a snowflake since. We have a our fingers crossed for more soon, we really want to dig out the snowshoes :)
