Postcards From Myrtle Beach
Our days in Myrtle Beach have been slow and easy, filled with good things, and lots of laughter. There was a rainy day trip to the aquarium in which Reece fell in love with an octopus and the sting rays. He was also very excited to see a hammerhead shark, one of his latest loves. Heart shaped shells, and other ocean treasures have been collected on our after dinner beach walks, little hands have been drawing in the sand, and little feet have been chasing the waves. We have taken time to do the tourist walk through downtown, stopping in to check out all the tacky beach souvenirs, and purchase postcards to send off to friends. The woods were calling, and off we went to Huntington Beach State Park for a walk among the trees. We also stopped in at the nature center on the park grounds and were lucky enough to see, through a very high end monocular, a bald eagle nest with a baby in it. And later, flying across the marsh we spotted snowy egrets, pelicans, and the most beautiful great blue heron.
The week ahead sees the temperatures warming up considerably. There are plans for a visit to Brookgreen Gardens to check in on the rescued animals at the zoo, walk through the Cypress Aviary, tour the children's garden, and to sit quietly at my favourite spot, Live Oak Allee, and we will take another walk in the woods, this time at Myrtle Beach State Park. Of course there will also be many more beach walks, afternoons by the pool, and hopefully a few solo morning walks on the beach for this mama, watching the sunrise over the ocean.
Wishing you a lovely start to your week.
Sounds just lovely - what a treat...

Thank you my friend, big hugs to you too. xo
Sounds like a perfect trip so far. I know the weather hasn't been as warm as usual, but I'm thinking it's all about perspective : 10 degrees compared to -40 with wind feels like a tropical vacation. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo happy you are having such a wonderful time. xo
It has been wonderful Yanic. The weather has been cooler, but we were blessed today...it was 18C and the sun was shining strong and bright. It was beautiful.

Oh how I love the aqaurium photos. I so enjoy going to aquariums and simply sitting there watching the creatures glide through the water. It's truly mesmerising. Octopus are fascinating creatures. My sister worked in a Marine Life centre a while back and said that the resident octopus was a real escape artist. It would get out of the tiniest cracks and then the staff would find him splatted flat out on the floor!
ReplyDeleteReece has such a peaceful, happy face! :)
Thanks Leisa. I find them to be very relaxing, and mesmerizing, as does Reece. Really, that is hilarious, I will have to tell Reece about that, he will get a kick out of it.
DeleteAwe, thank you. He is a pretty calm, happy child :)
Your trip sounds perfect, 18°C, nature walks, watching the sunrise. What more could you ask for? Enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, it feels pretty perfect. And really, I couldn't ask for much more :)

ReplyDeleteWe are making wonderful memories, and I love that I can capture them here. One day I hope Reece looks back at this space with a happy heart.
DeleteThanks!
lovely trip!! we live close to the ocean and i always miss the "hot" weather in the summer, but i suppose we are lucky too... that it never really gets to terribly cold in the winter. i love all of your photos. their is something so magical about beach photos! what is it? the colors? the light? the ocean? maybe all. :) glad you had such a wonderful time and now you are safe at home again!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the magic in beach photos. I think it is a combination of all the things you mention.
DeleteThank you!
