Over the last few weeks Reece and I have been on a few adventures, and Justin has stayed home to get some work done and tend to our little homestead. When we went away the first time I came home to this lovely pantry unit. Space is always a problem in our home, it is after all a one room schoolhouse. We are always working to make the best use of the space we have and decided a pantry wall would be a really great idea. I left knowing Justin was planning to build the shelving while I was gone, but had no idea what his plans were. I was not only happy when I got home, but instantly got to work filling up those shelves. So far there are more empty jars than full ones, but with the canning season upon us you can bet they will fill up fast.
When we headed to a friends cottage last week he set out to build the island. Again I left with no idea what he planned to do and well, you can imagine how happy I was when I got home. I am in love with the island and have put it to good use many times in the last week, including serving up our buffet style dinner on Saturday night for friends.
My kitchen feels like a brand new space. Since getting home from the cottage the whole kitchen has been reorganized, there have been boxes of extras sent off to donation centers and it is now feeling light, airy and just perfect for our little home.
I love the marriage of beauty and usefulness. I have a thing for mason jars too :) What a beautiful surprise indeed! It's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMe too...on both accounts :)
DeleteThanks, I love it and am so happy every time I reach over to grab a jar. I can't wait to see it full of food, ready for winter :)
We got an island for the kitchen in our new apartment as well, and I am surprised by how useful it is and by how much I use it. Yours is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They are pretty great. We did have a smaller one, actually some of it was used to make the new one, but it was really too small to be functional. This one is a perfect size and will get used often :)
DeleteLove both those pieces of furniture = we're moving the end of August and we're trying to plan some new projects and to simplfy our kitchen - love this.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I am so very happy with it. Good luck with the move :)
DeleteI have an island in my kitchen and I cannot imagine my life without it. You should go away more often since big things happen when you're gone ;) I know you will be filling up those shelves quickly in the next few months!
ReplyDeleteBig things always happen when I am gone, we kinda plan it that way. Justin has the time and space to work without Reece under foot and me wanting to clean up every 10 minutes :)
DeleteOh my goodness, it's beautiful!! What a wonderful space - and now you have more room to process all of those cans of food!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I know, can't wait!
DeleteIt looks amazing!! Justin is one talented guy :) I can't wait until this weekend to see Patrick's face when he opens up his treehouse!
ReplyDeleteAwe, thanks Carrie. I hope you will share a pic from when he opens it :)
DeleteHope you are well and enjoying your summer.
Oh wow, Kim! So beautiful! Have been looking forward to seeing your new kitchen - thanks so much for sharing. And Justin - what a sweet and clever man! Hurrah for Justin :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Renee, I am super pleased with it, as you know :) Yes, so very grateful to have him in my life, for this and so many other reasons.
DeleteOh, it looks wonderful! And that countertop is beautiful! Have fun in your "new" space!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I will!
DeleteWow, it's all so gorgeous! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You bet I will :)
DeleteVery exciting Kim. THat pantry shelf will look so lovely come August and September.
ReplyDeleteYes, and I can't wait!
DeleteBeautiful Kim! Is he taking orders yet?
ReplyDeleteThanks Maggie. And yes, he is always taking orders...interested?
