Crafting for Our Feathered Friends
Backyard birding has been an obsession around here. Not a day goes by that we don't stop to watch the flurry of activity in our yard. We have witnessed chipping sparrows leaving their nest, watched a mama and papa house wren feeding their babies, observed the eastern phoebe fly back and forth from the nest and now another set of house wrens are building a nest in the eaves of the house. It is thrilling to watch and has us reaching for the binoculars regularly throughout the day.
With so much activity in the backyard another feeder is always welcome. Reece and I sat down last week to build this fun and easy feeder. It was a great way to pass some time on a hot and humid afternoon and it looks wonderful hanging in our yard. And yes, the birds do love it!

Oh, I love that little feeder! I think we need one (or two...or six...) for our yard! I just have to find some popsicle sticks... xo
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree :) Have fun!
DeleteI love the bright colors and how it is being kind to our feathery friends :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, you know us, we love our feathered friends :)
DeleteThis is very precious, just lovely, I'm sure the birds agree too:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, they certainly do :)
DeleteHow lovely! Is the bottom made of popsicle sticks too?
ReplyDeleteThanks Carrie. Yes, the bottom is popsicle sticks too...laid side by side and then two of them glued on the ends in the opposite direction. We built the sides up from there. Hope that helps.
DeleteThis is adorable Kim, as soon as I find popsicle sticks I will have to try this will the girls!
ReplyDeleteThanks KC! Happy crafting!
Deletewhat kind of glue do you use? Also, what kind of paint is waterproof and easy & safe for kids to use?
ReplyDeleteWe used good old white glue and let it dry overnight before hanging it. The popsicle sticks were purchased already painted. So far the colour has held up in the rain.
DeleteOh, i love that idea! The colors are so fun!
ReplyDeletewhat a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks Taryn :)
DeleteThat's adorable! Thanks for the idea. Did you paint the pop sticks or were they pre-colored?
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristen. We bought them pre coloured :)
